"I just had to write to you to tell you what I witnessed this past Wednesday. I was in Atlas Park shopping center in the afternoon, and I saw a guy who looked to be in his 40s shouting something to an older man. The younger man seemed somewhat familiar to me but I couldn't place where I knew him from. The older man walked toward the younger man, handed him a booklet and said something to him and then walked away with a smile on his face.
I was curious (and also a bit nosey), so I approached the older man and asked him what that was all about. He said that his name was Ed, and that the younger man was Councilman Dennis Gallagher. I couldn't believe it. Anyway, I asked what Gallagher had yelled to him. Ed said Gallagher's comment was, "Enjoy your last meeting tonight," the meeting being the community board meeting. I asked him if he was retiring from the community board and Ed said, no, that Gallagher was kicking him off. I asked him why and Ed said because Gallagher hates people that expose how corrupt he is.
I asked him what he had given to Gallagher and he said that he walked over to him and said, "Enjoy reading about yourself," and handed him a copy of a magazine in which he had written an article about Gallagher. Ed gave me a copy of it, too.
That's why he was at the mall, to distribute the magazine to the shops there. He told me he was a former Marine and was going to turn 71 this year. I was thinking to myself that here is a gentleman in his 70s who is working hard for nothing when he doesn't have to, while a guy that gets paid more than $100,000 of our tax money a year is dressed like a bum and hanging out at a shopping mall in the middle of the day harassing senior citizens.
I found a link to Ed's article if you're interested: Councilman Gallagher Betrays His Constituents - D.V.
P.S. Pinky is a really appropriate nickname for him!"
Yes, and a "real quality public servant" as Mike Schenkler might say...
