Here's a real eye-opener:
Brian McLaughlin Campaign Expenditures
From nlpc.org: "McLaughlin ran unopposed for re-election in 2004, yet spent more than $230,000. At least $166,000 of that went for fees for a short-lived Smithtown, L.I.-based consulting firm, Final Touch Management Services. State records show that the company was headed by a local chiropractor, Tom Schuette, whom sources say is a close friend of McLaughlin’s."

Here was an odd response when I clicked to see his campaign expenditures:

Now, that's a surprise!
I think I fixed the technical difficulty. Please try again.
He was allowed to spend $500,000 on his defense for what he is accused of? That's unreal!
All the usual suspects stand out... Parkside, Multimedia, Queens Dems.
Three entries for INTERVEST, two for 10,000.00 and one for $5,000.00. Now that is interesting. Seems like Don Manes' boys haven't left the building - YET.
Many expenses for Dale Nussbaum. I guess Brian would have to hire her if he wanted the endorsement from the Trib.
Did anyone find the missing $10,000 that went to a NY city councilman?
That's right, Julie - a half a million to keep his ass outta jail. (I shoulda gone to law skool.)
Yeah....Michael Nussbaum & Co. (of the Manes PVB scandal fame) Multimedia, and Evan (that son of a Toby) Stavisky of Parkside.
We heard that Ackerman was up Tommy Huang's ass and such.
What a group. Welcome to our one party Dem Club Dictatorship of Queens!
Don't even bother voting. The fix is in!
Bag Lady Phyllis Shafran gets only petty cash! Quel domage!
Wasn't Phyllis Shafron an old Manes "girl"?
Instead of standing behind a podium, Brian will soon be parking his crooked ass in the witness box!
Funny how the Queens papers gingerly reports this.
They go ape-sh*t over Bush and that stupid war, but something local that we have some control over?
Admit that a Democrat do something bad?
Now, now dear, don't make a scene.
