Ron Kim nabs purse snatcher

From Eyewitness News:

A New York State assemblyman from Queens was walking down the street when he saw a woman being robbed.

The assemblyman played high school football in the Bronx and college football upstate, and it served him well Thursday.

"It was a crazy day," State Assemblyman Ron Kim said.

It was a crazy day for two-term Assemblyman Kim who found himself redefining the term constituent service, detaining a would-be purse snatcher on a busy Flushing sidewalk.

Moments earlier, he'd turned the corner as a woman with an infant was trying to chase the man down.

"I have a nine month old baby and all I could think was my wife walking the streets every single day and it happening to her," Assem. Kim said.

The man ducked into an office building, and for a moment Kim lost him and got on the phone to call 911.

But then, a Good Samaritan spotted the suspect, now wearing different clothes, and he charged up Main Street.

The assemblyman was still on the phone with police as he tackled him.

Perhaps a staged event to get Kim re-elected.
One nevah knows....does one?'

Staged? Unlikely, but this is a big feather in Ron's cap come election day.

As a good pol, he made sure that a picture was snapped.

Nice for a change.

So it took him 3 years to realize that homelessness and street crime are problems. Typical politician. Listen to you constituents. They know more about what's going on out there!

That's like saying the cop wanted a bystander to take a video of him putting Eric Garner in a chokehold. Everyone has a phone that takes pictures and/or videos, so there's going to be documentation whether one wants it or not.

I pick up my son frequently from a bus stop over there. I am always amazed that I never see police patrolling such a busy area especially at night. Thank you Ron Kim.

He tackled the kid? If a cop did that he would be suspended at best.

A lot of these panhandlers lately hanging out trying to scam local asians as a niche. Not sure why... maybe easy targets since holding lots of cash and usually they don't report to the police. I think the junkies must cop around here somewhere... probably should shut that spot down before it becomes more widespread

Should have gave the junkie a cement facial !
