2 long time businesses close

From the Queens Courier:

Seafood restaurant Pier 25A in Bayside closed its doors this week after 33 years on Northern Boulevard.

According to Pier 25A’s website, the restaurant was forced to close after the landlord declined to renew the lease for the iconic building, which is designed to resemble a wooden ship, at 215-16 Northern Blvd.

The landlord opted instead to tear the building down and build new storefronts over the next year.

Also got word that the Hilltap Tavern, which is probably older than anyone reading this post, closed for good Monday. It was located on Grand Avenue in Elmhurst.

I will not miss Pier 25.
Ate there once. Overpriced . Crappy food.
Just because Telly Savallas once ate there they think
they are a class A place.
But , I'm sure, another crappy Korean barbecue joint will replace it.

"I'm sure, another crappy Korean barbecue joint will replace it."

Or a CVS or a Rite-Aid or a bank or a parking lot for the 111th precinct since they already use it as one.

The Statements List displays information currently available for the Parcel you selected.
Parcel (BBL): 4-7334-1

Property Address: 215-10 NORTHERN BOULEVARD

215-16 turns into 215-10 for search results

I heard about this.
If the landlord can get the diner out and score permits & variance this a Hong Kong buyer is going buy and put a strip of micros stores with lots of small apartments above.
Its a 5 minute walk to the Bayside LIRR Port Washington line (20 minutes to Penn Station and no going through Jamaica)

why loose money?
if you can turn it over and turn a GOOD profit why not?
even with the city regs, smart people will find a way to profit
(or get out)
isn't that what this country is all about?
liberty and personal property rights?

" a cvs or bank"
if if there was no profit - they wouldnt do it

You know times are bad when a Ginmill can't make it.
Or could it be -
That the Hilltap REALLY sucked! I never was in that one - most others, but not that one.

Maybe, just maybe, the owner was sick & tired of all of the City enforcement, rules, regulations, permits, fees, and "Task Forces"...

The owner retired and sold the building.

Wow the Hilltap closed! That has been there for as long as I can remember. The last of the old man bars. I know for the last year or so they were bringing in bands on the weekend for the twenty somethings rockers. It was a dump but it was a connection to yester years.

No need for a variance. The property is zoned R6B with a commercial overlay (former BP Claire Shulman caused that disaster back in the 90s). The building can be up to 50 feet tall and have a mix of apartments and storefronts / office space as well as community facility use as-of-right.

I was at the Hill Tap for last call on Monday night for a final toast...the first time I went there was over a decade ago. The owner, who has been serving for decades, decided he didn't want to do it anymore and is selling the whole building. Great local Irish Bar with some indie/punk rock on the side; any "dump" that serves whiskey on tap is my kinda dump.

Anyone remember Charlie Raynor's on Metropolitan Ave. between 62nd and 64th streets in Middle Village?
Now that was a great old guys bar.

Divers Cove on Francis Lewis and 29th avenue isn't far behind.

Would it be a dream that a Sizzler would return to the area?

Pier 25 A will be built to the max that zoning allows.
I think that ALL one story taxpayers along Northern Blvd. will be razed and built upon soon.
