A positive note for Jamaica

Joe Moretti provides coverage of the Queens International Night Market that took place recently in Jamaica. Sometimes good things happen there.

O.k. Where are the photos of all of the piles of trash and litter left behind from this event?

Believe it or not, there was none. Many folks at this event were not from the area, although there were some who of course where. But everyone was throwing trash in the garbage cans and they had people sweeping during the whole event. So I had no photos of a garbage mess.

I went to this market when it was at the hall of science. great thing for Queens. Hopefully they can stick around

Going by the way gentrification takes root via events, art installations, palatable graffiti and even street fairs like this, I always take it as a grain of salt. There is no arguing that this was well coordinated and most of the stands looked like they fit the cultural traits of the neighborhood, but I think this only happened because of our delusional city planners and the odious Melinda Katz to make Queens, especially now they are targeting Jamaica into a cultural and social media hot spot.

It was a great spread and people should go on Joe's site to see the great pics, it wouldn't look out of place in the NY Times sunday magazine, if the sun didn't go down early.

I apologize for my curmudgeonly theories, but the fair is bringing craft beers (another gentrification sign)

It is all about ousting "Black" Jamaica and freeing up valuable real estate held by these " natives" since the mid 1950s.
Gentrification is the acceptable process that everyone supports, except these "Black natives".
Colonial yuppies are thereby being attracted to this "dangerous" frontier to settle there and push out the "troublesome" entrenched
minorities.

This is what social engineering is all about, and it is going on in every "minority" neighborhood in NYC.
Crown Heights in Brooklyn saw an extension of its historic district. The yuppies are moving in.
Adjacent Bed Stuy is the fly in the ointment. It still is spotty. Crime still abounds there.

Eventually even rough East New York will be colonized and tamed by the colonial army of hipsters and yuppies.
NYC is all about real estate. We are running out of "good" neighborhoods so the wilder territories must be reclaimed.

You might think I'm a gadfly with wild ideas. Those of you who care to investigate deeper will discover that there is some truth in my "ramblings". The Department of City Planning is the official arm of government. The department of city plotting is its covert department.
It serves the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) quite well.

First off, there is a huge population of black people in Jamaica who own their homes and take care of them(parts of South Jamaica, St. Alban, Addesleigh Park, Laurelton, Rosdale, Cambria Heights) and are not being pushed out and in fact want their area cleaned up and improved since it only helps to increase the value of their property, which had been lowered by the influx of low-class slobs who have ruined many communities in Greater Jamaica.

Also for those folks that may get pushed out (and those would be some renters), maybe some of those folks should have taken care of where they lived and the surrounding area instead of turning it into a garbage dump by throwing garbage all over (which my blog has documented)or causing problems. Maybe if that was the case, all of this development may not have taken place.

The downtown are tends to have many low-class people in low-class rentals and houses (with the exception of a few co-ops), who have no respect for their property or surrounding area as can be seen by the huge litter and garbage problem, so if those folks get pushed out, I doubt many in Jamaica will shed a tear.

It is about having respect and pride in both yourself, where you live and your community. If blame for some gentrification needs to be placed, it can be on some of these people, not just the REBNY.

How many visitors’ cars got ransacked that night?
I'd never take a nice car to Jamaica, if the local sec 8s and illegal’s see a car that is owned by a white person they will key it, damage or throw rocks when you’re at a red light.
Not just Jamaica but NOW parts of Long Island, Freeport, Riverhead, Skeldon. Just like in Baltimore, Philadelphia and Furgison. This racial probem has gotten 100X worse nation wide since Obama's re-election and skyrocketing in NYC under DiBlazio!!

Do you even live in Jamaica? NO CARS were ransacked that night and how does someone tell if a car is owned by a white person (and what if the person is half white/half black, they only get half the car keyed), what a fucking idiotic comment.

I have never seen any of that shit you talked about where I live and that is near where this event was.

People kill me with the bullshit they say, just like a politician, a bunch of bullshit.

Thanks for the PR speech , Joe.
Jamaica will remain a shit hole regardless of who owns their own homes unless these homeowners become more civilized and observe sanitary codes.
Jamaica Estates was always the premium portion of Jamaica.
The rest of it.....eh....not so great.
When you are in Jamaica, at night, it ain't so safe.

C'mon....IT IS social engineering that's going on , to drive out the "Blacks".
I can remember the old "Jewish Jamaica" , in the olden days up on the hill,, and their disparaging comments
about "Black Jamaica" to the south in the valley below Hillside Ave.
Don't try to pull my leg. I was around in the 50s and saw it!

Joe Jamaica, they know and stop sticking your head in the sand. The family's may be nice but the teenage children are growing up to be racist thugs. Stop sticking your head in the sand
Look what happened here last night, the same place Jay-Z played with no problems. This is happening all over the country

I love people who do not live in Jamaica or have no idea what they are talking about. Sure Jamaica is not so great as my blog shows, BUT.................

1. To the one ANON: You probably do not even live in Jamaica or ever see much of it. A majority of homeowners actually take care of their homes, go to Addesleigh Park, St. Albans, the far South Jamaica near Roy Wilkins Park. Laurelton. It is the renters of homes, run by slumlord owners that tend to be problematic. Not to say you might not find a homeowner who does not take care of their place, but the majority do.

2. To the other ANON: There is no social engineering going on to drive out "blacks". I mean if you own your home, no one can drive you out. Sure maybe some of the section 8 or renters, but not the homeowners.

Please do not talk about something you have no first hand knowledge of.

Okay, I am going to bite on this remark, even though I should not with some of you.

A Taylor Swift/Jay-Z concert has nothing to do with NYC, let along Jamaica. I am not sticking my head in the sand, far from it, I am very aware of the community I live, which obviously you do not since you do not live there.

The downtown section where this takes place is a mixture of people with really no group dominating. It is made up of various Hispanics, Asians, Bangladeshi, Pakistan, Indian, Middle Eastern, Various black (African American, Jamaica, African) and some white. In fact black people probably are in the minority in that particular area.

And I am sure you know all the kids of the families there. Give me a break. You sound like Fox News, if you can call that station news.
