The Councilman doth protest too much, methinks!

"Each site has a history that goes back nearly 150 years."

Hey Pinky, Niederstein's was built in 1854, St. Saviour's in 1847. How the hell do you math?

And stop blaming LPC when the real problem is you.

This tripe was handed out at the City Council's June buildings hearing where community leaders were not allowed to speak about problems they experienced with the Department of Buildings. There is a column detailing the shenanigans here: Dennis Gallagher & Maspeth Federal Savings: Rewriting the U.S. Constitution

I agree with the writer's opinion that, "Queens has the same type of democracy that the Iraqis had in Baghdad under Saddam Hussein." But look what happened to him...

This guy needs to be brought up on Federal charges for trampling on his constituents' constitutional rights.

Methinks he didn't protest loud enough to his real estate "pals" (and let's not forget Maspeth Federal who are all in cahoots with each other) that they better save the local history that's worth saving and start right now with St. Saviour's! He's just a wolf in sheeps' clothing! Soon "Pinky" Gallagher will be term-limited out of his job. Then he'll be history! And that's a piece of history that's definitely not worth saving!

Stop with the "Blarney". At least I kissed the real stone at that Irish castle not the developers' asses! It's YOU Mr. Gallagher that has failed (no, make that betrayed) your constituency. Of course, LPC was a willing accomplice!

What a pompous "puff piece" the Councilman's newsletter is (painting him to be a historic preservation saint). It's a thinly put together propaganda sheet....an insulting "rag" which feebly attempts to conceal his criminal negligence in protecting our community's 2 important historic treasures! You just keep on putting all of that ink to paper and doing your mailings to your constituents. Mr. Gallagher.....we don't believe you anymore. You're just a clumsy political stooge!

The stooge obviously being Curly!

You know what they say about the finger of blame, Dennis: 4 fingers point right back at you.

I have one particular finger in mind that I'd like to raise to Mr. Gallagher!

The text on the Historic Districts Council website explains why St Saviours is not getting designation:

It is the fault of the political process and without support, they will not raise a figure to help.

Do you hear that CB 5 and Gallagher?

Its your fault, not LPC.

How to remedy this problem? You need local groups, like JVCA to fight for the community.

The following is directly copied from the HDC website. Capitals are added for emphasis

Quote:

Before making a formal request to the Landmarks Preservation Commission to consider your neighborhood, it is good to have as much community support as possible.

THE LPC IS NOT IN A POSITION TO PUT TOGETHER THE REPORTS, HOLD HEARINGS, AND EXPEND ITS RESOURCES IN TIME, LABOR, AND MONEY ON AN AREA THAT, IN A GIVEN POLITICAL CLIMATE, WILL NOT GET THROUGH THE CITY COUNCIL.

AN AREA WITH HEAVY POLITICAL SUPPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT and no community interest in preservation IS SIMPLY NOT A FRUITFUL PLACE FOR THE LPC TO SPEND ITS ENERGIES—and its limited political capital.

IN AN AREA WHERE POLITICAL AND DEVELOPMENT PRIORITIES MILITATE AGAINST A SUCCESSFUL LANDMARKING EFFORT, IT IS UP TO LOCAL GROUPS TO GENERATE PRESSURE NOT ONLY ON THE COMMISSION BUT ALSO ON THEIR LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES.

They say that politics is a game, and it is funny how Gallagher points the finger.

Hey, editor, time to dig out that famous Thomas Nast cartoon, the one that has the circle of politicians all pointing to each other.

The caption, "who's to blame, not I!"

Why didn't Dennis Gallagher spend some of his ice cream money to have a complete report written about St. Saviour's? Why did the community group have to raise $50,000 on its own to file a lawsuit when it would have been better spent on improving the building after Gallagher gets LPC and the council to save it?

Gallagher is taking his revenge out on kids? That's abhorrent!

Yes, but unlike Iraq, it is everyone one's interest to take advantage of us and to no one's benefit to help us.

We have no oil, but only land with some pesky peasants that can easily be brushed aside. Land is the only asset really important in Queens. Its people are so much weeds maring the landscape.

That is why we should apply for the status of a colony to the UN and form a government in exile.

Gallagher deserves every slur that's been hurled at him but St. Savior's Church sits there rotting. What's to be done? How do you force this political pond scum to change his mind? Do we put Beep Marshal on the spot and also listen to her excuses for refusing to help? Why can't NYC, from its huge loaf of real estate, break off just one tiny piece and toss it to Maspeth ? Here, go build your kids a nice park and enjoy it for all the generations that will follow! Stinking, poxy, bastards!

Dennis Gallagher doesn't give a damn about St. Saviour's, Niederstein's or his constituents. All he cares about is lining his pockets with developers' money.

I normally don't defend pols but this site is just too over the top picking on Councilperson Dennis Galalgher. The real estate lobby is just too big to overcome.

Money controls everything. It has no right, it has no wrong. You can buy anything and anybody especially politician... they come cheap.
