Is this drone a good idea?

From WPIX:

Juniper Park in Middle Village Queens is the kind of huge gathering place where everything gets noticed.

Especially a white quad-copter, or drone, emblazoned with what looks like an NYPD logo.

“We’ve now been requested by the 104th precinct to now cover all the townships of the 104th precinct,” said Mark Pearson of the 104th Pct. Civilian Patrol.

But Mark Pearson of the 104th Precinct Civilian Patrol, a volunteer organization that works closely with, but is not officially linked to the police department, is not flying this machine in any official capacity.

You’re looking at what could be the new face of community patrols – except Pearson intends to use his drone to find missing children.

“Wouldn’t you like to be able to find a missing child within let’s say fifteen minutes of getting the call out. We have over sixty members of the civilian patrol. We can mobilize our cars within a matter of minutes,” said Pearson.

As they say...what goes up must come down...eventually....in one manner or another.
One of these days a drone will fall from the sky due to technical difficulties. The more drones in the sky....the greater the likelihood that something will happen. If one should fall in a public park...who knows whose soccer game might wind up ending in a tragedy or whose baby carriage might get hit.

Drones are cheap way for the NYPD to opt out of putting officers on the street. The predictions of George Orwell"s "1984" are coming to pass....even if it's much later in 2015. Chicken Little was right, " The sky is falling"!....sooner or later.

Can you say Big Brother?

Can I play with my drone at the park too, or do I have to put on my make believe cop shirt on first.

These people are just looking for an excuse to fly their drone past (or into) people's windows...

This is sick. Talk about helicopter parenting. There are some assholes in the NYPD, including the newly deputized volunteer Pearson that still have no grasp on civil rights and the constitution and are trying to exploit parents fears that they are doing it to protect children. And if they think kids are that clueless and think it would be fun to have a dangerous object buzzing around them should read how a group of kids organized to have a surveillance tower removed in tompkins square a month ago. By the way, when a performance was held there the NYPD actually flew a drone there to scope the crowds, so where are they getting that this is just an experiment.

Once they get the FAA rights, you know damn well these will be used on people exercising their constitutional rights to assemble and protest. This, pardon the obvious phrase and consequent action, has to be shot down.

And for chrissakes, this is only going to further strains between the police and the communities, leading to more cynicism and mistrust. And in the case of juniper, probably with people that support them no matter what. And what happened to the beat cops, why did Blaz hire 1300 cops for? Get up and walk.

And this isn't even the worst of it. This is>>>

They will never get it.

Isn't this wonderful? We have almost no privacy as it is, and now even being on your roof on in an empty park is no guarantee that you won't be recorded and put online for the entire world to see.

And, as always, their excuse is "it's for the children".

I am for the use of drones if they can be used to keep an eye on our politicians.
Big Voter is watching you!
