To those who claimed it was a horrible contaminated trash landfill... where's the trash? Oh that's right - it was nothing but rock and dirt from the lincoln tunnel.
Just the port authority slaughtering trees, nothing to see here...
Probably flattening it for more LaGuardia Airport parking. Considering the amount of space available here, I would like to see it reserved for a right-of-way that can be used by the N train in reaching the airport.
The smart ones have already moved out of Astoria four decades ago. The huge Greek exodus founded St. Nicholas Orthodox Church on Northern Boulevard in Auburndale. You Astoria die hards who hung in will have to learn to live with worsening conditions. The boat has left and you have missed it.
Wah! Wah! Wah! WTF does the rest of Queens, NYC, or America care if a mountain of landfill gets denuded or leveled? Get some perspective. There are far bigger issues.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap
"The difference between dishonest and honest graft: for dishonest graft one worked solely for one's own interests, while for honest graft one pursued the interests of one's party, one's state, and one's personal interests all together." - George Washington Plunkitt

Wait till they find Luyster Creek under it. They put that mountain there because the ground was like quicksand - everything they put in there sank.
Now the big question is how Astoria will react to the airport noise and how will the airport react to being downwind from the Astoria sewage plant.

LOL!
Luyster Creek?
A piece of trivia most likely gleaned from the musty archives of GAHS.
Stop making a mountain out of a Mole hill.
Unless, there will be no park here, and a garbage transfer facility might be in the works.
