Ratner eyeing Queens projects

From Crains:

MaryAnne Gilmartin took over as president and chief executive of Forest City Ratner, one of the city's most prolific developers, on Wednesday. She succeeds the company's long-time Chief Executive Bruce Ratner, who had announced he would step down earlier this year.

In her new role Ms. Gilmartin will take over one of the city's most ambitious developments, Atlantic Yards on the edge of downtown Brooklyn where Forest City Ratner finished work on the Barclays Center in September and in December began building a rental apartment building next door, the first of up to 15 such properties it plans to raise at the site.

In addition, she said she will also work to build up a new pipeline of development sites, particularly in Queens, and will work to make the Metrotech Center, a complex of office buildings Forest City Ratner began building along Flatbush Avenue in downtown Brooklyn in the late 1980s, appealing to technology and creative companies. Originally, it was pitched as ideal back office space for major Wall Street firms.

While many developers have focused on areas like Manhattan's far West Side, Ms. Gilmartin said she is looking to create new projects in Queens, though she declined to specify what neighborhoods she would focus on.

"The West Side is crowded," Ms. Gilmartin said. "I like the East Side and Queens."

Greeeeaaaattt.

It's easy to run a company like FC Ratner when the City is throwing millions of dollars in corporate welfare at you.

I would take a Barclays Center any day in Jamaica as opposed to all the shit that is here now. Just how many Beauty Supply shops, 99 cent stores, cheap clothing stores and shitty low class apartments can one place have that does absolutely nothing for the community except turn it into a dump and a haven for every imaginable low life person to come.

We need a casino and race track in Flushing....please.

She is OBVIOUSLY talking about Queens western shore...since it's the closest to Manhattan.

LIC and Astoria, get ready for the second wave to hit.

If you desire a more quiet life..move east while there's still time...or get lost in the canyons of over development...surrounded by glass and steel monoliths!

You cannot stop "progress'.

Flushing will get what the Taiwanese-Chinese want.
They run the show. They buy the goods. They pay for the services and entertainment.

It's their colony now (except for the northeast which will remain out of the advancing horde's hands).

The low density zoning makes that possible.
The ambitious "war lords" can't build 14 story buildings in an R 1-2A zoned nabe.

"Occidentals" shun the dirty downtown hub.
They patronize elsewhere and have been doing so for at least 10 years.

So if Bruce Ratner has visions for Flushing, he'd better build to the tastes of Orientals, in this Chinatown.

Eastern Queens with its dead heads? The land of Schulman and Grodencek? I'd rather live in Iowa.

Queens Boulevard needs the development - look at it and compare to Park Ave, Eastern Parkway, Grand Concourse.

Ugly and underdeveloped.

Its right above a subway and would be perfect for more development.

It sounds like you're jealous of our good quality of life?

The property values of single family homes in northeast Queens continue to rise.

They held steady during the financial downturn... which is more than can be said of single family homes in... i.e. Astoria (if they haven't been demolished by now).

A zip ride on the Port Washington LIRR branch and ...poof...you're in Manhattan enjoying its goodies.

Then you can return to the better life.

Northeast living offers the best of both worlds...
peace and a civilized commute to the vibrant city.

So what, Archie bunko?

Too low property taxes mean that you're living in a ghetto.

In this world, you get what you pay for.

Maybe you should find yourself a better paying job
and move east.

Horace Greely was wrong. The wild west ain't what it's cracked up to be.

Hey Archie Schmucko!

I don't mind paying taxes when the funds are used for public good and not going into some elected officials pockets, developers' pockets, and useless projects!
