Latest chapter in 88th Road saga

It took awhile, but NYC finally admitted what the people of Bellerose knew all along about the houses on 88th Road:

City Concedes Houses Are Too Close Together

You can backtrack QC's log of this story, starting here:

“I don’t expect the city will make him tear them down, unfortunatety,” Hellenbrecht said in December. “But developers should have to live by the zoning code, that’s the law of the land"

Shoulda coulda woulda.

Hand wringing is a waste of time. When these guys get hit with $$$$$ and only then, will they change their tune. If you know that you can do anything you want, and only risk public censure (by people that don't even exist in your personal world), what the hell do you care?

The builder should be forced to remove the building, and if he doesn't within a resonable time, the city should do it for him with a lien on all personal property until it gets satisfied.

Of course, the builder is an immigrant who is sending his kids to college and this is the only way they can afford school and ... blah ... blah ..

Once it in it stays! That's been the credo of DOB, City Planning....yadda, yadda, yadda!

The transgressions will be "forgiven" (as it's usually put).

Name one similar situation where a law breaking builder was told to remove his offenses!

He may get a slap on the wrist...... maybe a fine or two, but the houses aren't going anywhere.

Well here we are, more than 3 years later and we are STILL battling the Developer (JAVID HOMES) and the DOB over these houses. The construction crew destroyed our fence, dug huge holes in OUR property and never repaired or replaced the fence.
We are still waiting for reimbursement of our new fence. Every few months they come in, attempt to work on the houses ILLEGALLY and get slapped with more Stop Work Orders. The DOB website shows a total of 22 complaints and only 6 violations between the two houses. I am sick and tired of this situation and am still holding out hope that they will eventually be taken down!
