Embarrassed deBlasio orders Parks to handle tree complaints

From CBS 2:

A Queens woman who was stumped by the Parks Department was smiling on Wednesday night.

Janice Derr’s handwritten list of tree troubles was initially rejected, but has since been accepted thanks in part to a little help from CBS 2.

On Wednesday, CBS 2 brought Derr’s situation to the mayor’s attention. He agreed that the Parks Department should have accepted the handwritten list.

“Clearly a citizen still has an opportunity to send a letter and send documents in, and we will make sure that in this case this is followed up on,” Mayor De Blasio said.

CBS 2 gave the list to the mayor’s office. Derr was ecstatic.

“I’m excited and I hope I get results, and it seems like I am if the mayor is paying attention thanks to you and Channel 2,” she said.

An assistant parks commissioner has already reached out to Derr and a forester will be inspecting every tree on her list.

I hope the Parks Department does more than just "inspect" the tree trunks. You know, like, actually REMOVE the tree trunks?

Sad that things can only get done when the media gets a hold of the story. Why can't the city do anything useful without the media pushing the topic on them?

Time for a letter to the Mayor about THE DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS setting for construction sites that have outstanding complaints; violations, etc.

I think we should give his Honor a chance -- to do something to make major changes.

*****
because you always go after the wrong people.

the city is set up so that everything important goes through your councilman.

in other words, you are his serf.

the beep will not help you. 3111 will not help you. the mayor will not help you. the commissioner will not help you.

the few times you read about the exceptions is news because ... they are the exceptions.

we will tell you tirelessly - if you want anything done YOU WILL HAVE TO GO AFTER YOUR LOCAL ELECTEDS - who in turn, are not fools (well at least in the area of avoiding accountability).

they will do everything they can to avoid you and your issue or pawn it off on some dead end in city bureaucracy.

Just for a point of information. In the 40s there was one Park Comm. for all 5 boroughs, he lived in Queens Village on Monterey Street his name was E. King.

geez..if you need to have the mayor to top person to actually get you to work.. that dept have a problem.. maybe replace them? In fact, pinpoint who was the person who sent back that letter to the old lady and make them fear that they are now accountable. idiots.
