All Queens subway stations to get wifi this year

From DNA Info:

Straphangers in Queens soon won't have to hang up when they go underground.

Wireless cellphone service and Wi-Fi are being installed at all of the borough's 29 underground subway stations in the coming months, officials announced Wednesday, part of the second phase of the MTA's plan to connect the city's transit system.

Transit Wireless, the company handling the project, said it will also bring service to 11 more stations in Midtown Manhattan, including Grand Central Terminal, 34th St. Herald Square and Bryant Park.

Those stations and the Queens stations should all be equipped by June, the company said. They'll join the 36 Manhattan stations that have already gone wireless.

after seeing that debate about giving illegals ids and what effect it will have on national security.wouldn't giving people cellphone and wifi access be a bigger threat considering that phones are triggers to improvised explosive devices aka suspicious packages and abandoned backpacks.

the mta and the city needs money so badly that they are willing to sacrifice security just so the trains can run on time.

if you really want to bomb the subway you can have the bomb receive commands from 2.4Ghz frequencies which are open and where wifi runs on. you don't need wifi routers to activate a bomb

Now watch the Smart phone Zombies walk off the platform into oncoming trains...

Dammit. I really don't want this to happen :( People are on their phones *everywhere* and they already don't know how to use them properly. Looks like my commute just got a lot louder and inconsiderate.

There is nothing nicer than some fool SCREAMING into his phone about something personal only to get abruptly cut off by the train moving into the blessed silence of a tunnel.

How about before they install wifi service to underground stations, they install PA systems on the A & J elevated platforms.

Great now I'd have to hear these damn illegals on the seven train for the underground stops too? It's bad enough I already here them above ground! I feel like I'm not even in America anymore....

That's great, more inane conversations from the clueless masses. STFU and read a book!
