Grave trampling at St. George Church of Flushing?

From the Queens Chronicle:

A parishioner at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Downtown Flushing is concerned about the tombstones being damaged in the church’s graveyard.

“Hundreds of people waiting for food have been trampling all over the cemetery grass every Wednesday and Saturday,” Francis Abele said in a letter to the Chronicle. “This action, not only disrespects the buried but also desecrates such a sacred place.”

The Rev. Wilfredo Benitez, the rector at the church, does not agree with the claim that the tombstones were harmed by people waiting for food, saying that those in line are separated from tombstones by a rope barrier.

Queens Chronicle has a photo of the trampling. There doesn't appear to be a rope.

Disgusting. But isn't disrespect of tradition in Flushing a given?

Even if they had a rope,it's not like people can't just go under the rope. It's not like they have a huge brick wall or anything separating them.

They've trampled all of Flushing . What's new?

I thought the Asian society's respected the elderly? Why do I see so many Asian elderly scrounging for food and cans? Is it possible the Chinese Got is dumping their elderly in the U.S.? Has anyone looked into this?

No one should be just milling around in a grave yard for any reason, waiting for food handouts, or not. How utterly disrespectful.

Why is the church attracting these illegals like stray cats ?
BTW: These disrespectful freeloading slobs don't look Asian.

It seems that this church rector is as big a piece of shit as most of the bums he is serving food to. Of all the places to have the bums line up for their handout what shit head would think its a good idea to have them line up in a graveyard? But this is all just another example of modern disrespect and disregard for tradition and values. I'm just surprised that this graveyard has not been built over with dense packed "affordable" housing.

"that this church rector is as big a piece of shit"

No surprise here, If half the people only knew of the crap that went on at St.Leonards in Bushwick where my mother was a grade school and after school catechism teacher. We had gamblers, drunks, crazy violent lesbian nuns abusing the smaller kids and a priest named "twinkle toes" our grandparents said stay away from.
I no longer go to church and don't suggest anybody trust these people. -the Vatican and Pope included.

REPLY: I live in a hi-rise co-op building complex in Forest Hills. Every morning at 7:00AM without fail -- regardless of the weather -- an eldery Asian man/woman (who looks to be at least 85 years old) leaves to collect bottles and cans, returns home for lunch at 12:00PM, leaves at 1:00PM to resume finding bottles and cans and ends the day at 5:30PM. This huge collection are in bags bigger than the elderly Asian. This family does not need this money but the elder feels it's his/her duty to contribute to the family coffers. At about $100 a day that pays for the maintenance on the 3 bedroom co-op for the year.

Maybe it's the paper Grandparent - a fake grandparent, the Chinese learned to scam US Government decades ago using paper sons and daughters all under different names.

Do not try to tell me that this Chinese elderly person is not getting every known Government benefit. Social Security, medicaid, food stamps, housing vouchers. they are most likely forced to pay back money to the snake heads. Asians as a group, get the highest amount of government benefits in the USA and I can tell you that they use different names and get away with it to get double, triple benefits. The family doesn't need the money but they demand it from this sad person that they are falsely alleging is their relative. Most likely they are some kind of slave in the household and are beaten if they don't get money some way. Another unnecessary drain on the US taxpayer, send them all back to China, the ones leaning on the headstones first.
