Bird strikes went up after goose killings started

From the Daily News:

An Associated Press analysis of bird-killing programs at the New York City area's three major airports found that nearly 70,000 gulls, starling, geese and other birds have been slaughtered, mostly by shooting and trapping, since the 2009 accident, and it is not clear whether those killings have made the skies safer.

Federal data show that in the years after bird-killing programs LaGuardia and Newark airports ramped up in response to the gutsy landing, the number of recorded bird strikes involving those airports actually went up.

Combined, the two airports went from an average of 158 strikes per year in the five years before the accident to an average of 299 per year in the six years after it, though that could be due to more diligent reporting of such incidents.

Well duh !!
The birds are after the garbage at the end of the runway, there is this big thing with conveyor buckets so when the wind picks up some this garbage also blows into the bay and the birds go nuts, From the air all the paper looks looks schools of fish.
The whole bay is filthy, the same shit happens with these huge HUGE double towed garbage barges from New England pass in front of the runway and N brother island leaving a 10 foot deep hole in the water filled with spilling rotted trash. During summer with any wind you can smell them for miles and im sure the birds do also

For some reason these FAA and safety people refuse to hear or or see this for themselves.

When do we get to thank former Mayor Bloomturd for the garbage transfer station built in College Point? How far is it from the end of the runway? Hmmmmmmmmmmm..........

That's because it has nothing to with FAA. The FAA selects runways, climbs, and delegates the airspace. The Port maintains runways, construction, etc.

It's the port authority whose responsibility this all is.

Build the Airport somewhere else safer.
Tragedy is waiting to happen over such a large population in Queens.
Whitestone and Flushing is in danger because of NextGen !

Where do you propose this location to be? Not near your dwelling, perhaps in Albany, New York?
Where would you find such a tract of land? Or just bulldoze homes?

And give the LaGuardia property to the real estate developers so that they may build "low income housing"?

Sounds like a great plan...

Put a waste transfer station across from La Guardia and bird strikes are certain to occur.
"Brilliant" city planning....eh?
Up in the sky...is it a bird......is it a plane...no....it's a bird striking a plane.
This is a job for Superman! LOL!

And the PA loves nothing more than to screw over NY in favor of New Jersey.

>Build the Airport somewhere else safer.

Where?

Same with the waste transfer stations, no one wants them near their house either, but they gotta go somewhere nearby.
