Are we in for a long, hot summer?

From the Daily News:

Just three months into 2010 robberies, burglaries, grand larceny and car thefts are on the rise in much of the borough, especially in some traditionally safe neighborhoods, NYPD statistics show.

Some locals say the early upsurge in crimes like burglary is an outgrowth of the bad economy.

In Sunset Park/Windsor Terrace's 72nd Precinct, burglaries were up 120%, from 25 to 55. In the 67th Precinct, in Flatbush, car theft is up 51%, from 45 to 68.

Boroughwide, nearly 70% of all Brooklyn's 23 precincts saw a 20% or higher jump in robberies, burglaries, grand larcenies or auto thefts, NYPD statistics show.

But not all the crime in Brooklyn so far this year is economic.

Even scarier felonies are up in some neighborhoods such as Clinton Hill's 88th Precinct, where a rapist was at large for almost three weeks and six people have been shot this year.

The NYPD did not return repeated calls for comment. But experts said Brooklyn's crime spike may look worse than it actually is, a result of having low crime numbers to begin with.

Medeco locks with a large strike plate are nice.Make sure the a/c units are secured and the windows are pinned/locked or screwed.Don't be cheap, leave a light on in front of the house from sundown to sunset.Mount a a motion detector/light in the rear of the building high enough up so it can't Be tampered with. Get a shotgun.

I'll bet there is more Police not less on the upper East side of Manhattan than Queens or brooklyn were the cuts have taken place. Sure, cut the safety of our citizens to attract new-comers? Yeah right, this makes sense to everyone except the Mayor. Oh, sorry he has his 20 NYPD around him at all times............

Oh thats right. Having Con Ed finance hospitals.

Very creative. I want to see what he can do with my credit card bill.

See why the clubhouse wants to get rid of the middle class? Quality of life always interfers with having fun!

Funny how the po po says crime is down before the cuts, and now when they want to make cuts the crime stats go up.

there are NO jobs for young people (16-24). I read it was the highest on record (they've been keeping track since 1948). No PT jobs for young people means trouble will be on the rise.

House burglaries have jumped over 400% at the Queens Nassau border where cops are tied up protecting "The Miracle Mile".

Funny article here where the 6th pct captain avoids racial descriptions of the garbage committing these crimes (mostly 3rd world female domestic help) suggesting people place a "Large Dog Bowl" out back.

Be patient. Bloomberg needs more time to cook the books.

Hard times bring out the worst in people and these are the hardest times in decades--not to mention we still have to fear terrorism, one problem we did not have in the 70's or the 30's.

Just wait till some cop caps one of these pieces of crap in self defense and the riots start.
Its only a matter of time before this happens.
Between all the Central American gangs and Mexican criminals its gonna be like downtown Fallujah.
All the sheep better remember the armed cops will be home protecting their own family's and friends of the mayor

I've already seen cops side with the bad guys and this was right before the "bad" times.

NRA is looking good to me.

It has nothing to do hard times !
The parasite savages committing this crap DONT WORK and would still be trying to do the same thing in a good economy.
They simple behave like they do in there home country's to survive.
Only NOW the scumbags are getting braver knowing the cops have "lay off" orders fueled by all this BS talk of amnesty.
Stealing, Prostitution, Drugs, organized gang crime, extortion, sex slavery etc.
Go to a morning arraignment at the Queens courthouse. IT IS all the usual suspects doing most of his

Queens 2010 is the new Banana Republic !

Maspeth Mom says...

Def crime is up I see it right here in Maspeth on my street there was a burglary last week. Graffitti has temp stopped due to the fact that the 24 hour barber shop had moved to Grand Ave. But it is becoming more and more scary around here.

All a gift from Bloomberg to flush them "pain in the neck" Maspeth white people out.
Blight it then steal it all cheap.
