Ad campaign spending called into question

$42M blitz lacks 'hire' purpose
By REUVEN BLAU and KATHIANNE BONIELLO, NY Post

The NYPD and Correction Department have paid an ad firm $12 million since 2008 to attract new applicants -- even though neither agency plans to hire any time soon.

The NYPD has also agreed to pay up to $42 million to the Bernard Hodes Group over the next five years, despite there being 59,046 candidates who have passed the police test. The mayor's latest budget calls for as many as 19,000 fewer city employees, including thousands fewer cops. Police spokesman Paul Browne insisted recruitment is still needed.

Another blatant example of taxpayer wealth magically transferred to some politically connected organization/corporation, this time an advertising agency.

How do these advertising a-holes look at themselves in the mirrors every morning, knowing that they've ripped off the public, and made themselves rich in the process?

$42 million over 5 years, for what? I'd love to hear how these ad geniuses would justify their "hard work".

I look forward to the revolution, there's going to be LOTS of people "up against the wall"!

Wanna know why recruitment is still needed.. because the good candidates they already have are American born whites and blacks but Bloomy and Ray Kelly want more diversity aka minorities/immigrants.

What the article fails to mention is that this sum includes radio/tv spot sales, billboards etc -not just agency fees.

Typical lightweight Post reporting.

Leave it to Lino to never pass up an opportunity to demonstrate his pedantry and "tilt at another imaginery right-wing windmill", the NY Post!

Who the hell cares whether the article fails to mention that the ad agency is printing police recruitment brochures in 78 languages including Bhutanese and Linear A and B? It's still a waste of $42 million dollars!

Typical lefty hack!

You really should grow up and stop living a fantasy of these movie characters. Get out of that beery stupor and turn off that AM radio.

The money spent on the NYPD's recruitment campaign is in-part to deflect criticism from groups such as the ACLU:

Also to prevent costly and embarrassing federal oversight that might result from one of the many lawsuits filed each year against that agency.

The above link shows that extent that NYPD gets sued on a per-year basis and the resulting settlements. Spending $42M over a period of five years in a city with a near $47Bn budget is not a big deal, especially if it buys some insulation from accusations of bigotry.

Why don't you try actually -reading up- and -learning- before you gas-off.
