Groups trying to end sexual exploitation

From the Queens Courier:

An estimated 17,500 foreign nationals become victims of sex trafficking each year in the United States and another 244,000 U.S. citizens are exploited, according to a report by the National Human Trafficking Resource Center.

Queens has gained notoriety as a gateway for this exploitation due to its two international airports and its diversity of cultures.

At Borough Hall on Wednesday, April 7, [Ann] Jawin explained that some community newspapers advertise massage parlors, escort services and spas, which at times have blatant messages. In other cases, women hired as waitresses, nannies and hotel workers end up abused, with their passports withheld.

The CWNY plans to send an informative letter to mainstream and ethnic newspaper publishers along with a request to sign a pledge to refuse ads in print and online that cater to the victimization or exploitation of women.

From the Times Ledger:

“Queens County-based JFK International and LaGuardia airports and the major national highways offer easy entry to the United States, New York City and metropolitan area market,” Karen Siegel, a psychologist who works with women and girls who have been trafficked, said at the meeting last month. “The U.S. Department of Justice designated the I-95 corridor as a major route for human trafficking.”

Jawin said they will ask publishers to sign agreements not to run the ads in the newspapers or on their respective companies’ Web sites. Hollis resident Arnold Gallardo pointed out it was especially important to focus on advertising on Web sites because so many individuals have been able to access victims through the Internet.

After CWNY sends the letters to the publishers, Jawin said they plan to reach out to civic associations, religious organizations and politicians and ask them to urge the newspapers to sign the agreements.

“We want to stop these ads that are derogatory or exploitative of women,” Jawin said.

I wouldn't count on the Ackerman Group aka the Queens Tribune to sign off on ending the exploitive sex ads at the back of the paper. Is there is a connection between Ackerman's position on the Asian Committee in Congress and Mike Nussbaum and Mike Tobin's attempts to create sexually oriented entertainment centers in Asia? Instead of praising the Tribune, why isn't DA Brown investigating his friends' questionable international business relationships? Just sayin'...

If a U. S. Congressman is involved in any way with this type of exploitation, he should be made an example of!!! Is hanging out of the question?

Hollis resident Arnold Gallardo pointed out it was especially important to focus on advertising on Web sites because so many individuals have been able to access victims through the Internet.

Gallardo suggested also going after some of the larger Internet advertisers, including Google.

“You need to target someone like Google in order to reach the demographics of people going to these places,” Gallardo said.

This is a typical response - go after the big boys with the money! Why target Google? How does Google advertise for sexual services on the internet?

Why no mention of the "vibrant" people handing out flyers for sexual services along Roosevelt Avenue?

We know the answer to that, I just wanted to say it out loud!

Queens has gained notoriety as a gateway for this exploitation due to its two international airports and its diversity of cultures.

I'm confused. I thought "diversity is our strength"? Now it's sexual exploitation?

This is an interesting excerpt from the article that was just posted:

"Tobman says he's not doing any substantive lobbying for Shanghai Entertainment, but instead has been calling around the Hill to collect nice words said about Nussbaum that might help influence the Chinese."

Tobman, Nussbaum, and Ackerman are up to something that stinks! Stop running the Tribune whore ads and Impeach Ackerman NOW!!!!

Coincidentally, there was a program on WBAI yesterday morning that specifically addressed this issue. Host Geoff Brady spoke with attorney Charles Bonner. Here's the audio file:

I would request that Ann Jawin take her case directly to the Queens Tribune's Michael Nussbam...the prime associate in the sex trade by the abundant whore/massage ads they continue to run.

PICKET THEIR OFFICES AND ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO RUNS THEIR ADS IN THAT RAG TO PULL THEM OR FACE A BOYCOTT.

Money is power and the Trib's ad revenue is their bread 'n butter and thus their weak point!

STRIKE HARD or be known as ersatz feminists.

(LOL) Ann Jawin?

Another blow hard who talks much but doesn't do the real walk.

If she takes her "fight" too far, she'll lose her cozy digs at borough hall.

C'mon Ms. Jawin, who the f--k are you kidding with your phony "Game boy" war against sexual exploitation?

Prove your in earnest by escalating to a higher level.

Pin point the QUEENS TRIBUNE as a major contributor to this sordid form of exploitation.

CONGRESSMAN ACKERMAN...YOU'RE NOT GETTING OFF THE HOOK EITHER...
YOU HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO TO THE CONGRESSIONAL ETHICS COMMITTEE REGARDING YOUR CONDUCT AND AFFILIATION WITH THE "TRIB"!

Let's not forget that DA Richard Brown has been giving the Tribune a "free pass" for decades...and praising them to boot! He's got to go as well.

This is an international problem that has strong ties to Queens...and potentially a U.S. Congressman. BRING IN THE FEDS...unless they're in on it as well!

Maybe Brown is a client.

Maybe Brown is a client.

Perhaps he needs a "raise".

BRING IN THE FEDS!!!!

Wow Alan! I listened to the WBAI show and it was an eye opener! Thanks for posting the link. I heard you near the end. The topic makes me disrespect Ackerman even more, if that's possible.

Yup, Alan, great job exposing Ackerman. "1.5 million children" per year in the world-wide sex trade. Since its inception, the Queens Crap blogsite has been hammering at the Queens Tribune's sex ads. Ragusa and Tabone, if you can't pin this tail on the Ackerman donkey in the upcoming Congressional race, you both are pair of gavones.
