Any candidate associated with Gianaris is in trouble.First lets be clear about the demographics of Astoria today,it is not predominately Greek anymore since most Hellenes in NYC live in Northeast Queens.

Furthermore,Aravella Simotas seems very uneasy and sophomoric when it comes to the issues.Mr.Pearson on the other hand seems cool, calm and much better informed than Simotas.

And if candidate Jeremy Pearson asks some questions as to how Simotas got county behind her, he would learn that Gianaris chose Simotas as his heir apparent instead of Costa Constanides(who is already district leader)because Constantinides "isnt a real Greek".And for this Mike Gianaris and Aravella Simotas should be ashamed of themselves.

I cant imagine progressive astoria would vote for any candidate who partakes in that type of skullduggery,I know I wouldn't.

Their plan is to build this 9-story building on 30th Road. The entrance on 30th Road. The ambulance entrance on 30th Road. The ER on 30th Road. 30th Road is a residential block.

Hasn't anyone wondered why those other hospitals closed? They went bankrupt because they couldn't fill their beds. Let Mt. Sinai take over one of those facilities, gut it, and refurbish it. It would cost them $30M less than the proposed construction that they are asking you and I to pay for. Or let them find a piece of property that is not on a residential block.

Have you ever seen the type of people hanging around the hospital at night; all night.

I don't want that on the block that I have lived on since 1964.

Community Board #1 is a joke. Now it is a bigger joke with Judy Trilivas the COO of Mt. Sinai sitting on CB1.

As it is 30th Road has ambulances and trucks coming up the block all day and all night in the wrong direction; they double park or better yet park on the sidewalks. They park anywhere they want and Mt. Sinai does/says nothing to them. Take a walk down here and look at that oxygen tower they built without the Community's knowledge or consent. If that explodes hundreds of people will die on this block. But CB1 approved it without any qualms.

Caryn Schwab, the Executive Director has been contacted by the 30th Road Tenant's Association numerous times to discuss the current situation. She (and her harried staff) ignore complaints and arrogantly denies duplicity in ongoing problems.

And now that the situation is coming to a head, they are going to all the vulnerable members of our Community (senior centers and the older members of the political clubs) and misrepresenting the case for the addition.

The Powhatan & Pocohontas Democratic Club is planning an annual dinner dance where one of the honorees include Judy Trilivas, Chief Operating Officer for the Mt. Sinai Hospital.

There seems to be an orchestrated political effort to generate as much goodwill and favorable press for the hospital. This public relations effort is being done hand in hand with the local political base with the evident goal of hospital expansion.

The implications is that any kind of study to determine the need for the expansion will be biased, Community Board 1 will influence policy on city agencies without any meaningful input from the community, and eminent domain will ultimately be used to push homeowners out of their properties.

Hospitals are important and needed, but it is also a business that acts in its own best interest. That also includes other businesses such as diagnostic testing facilities, labs, suppliers that have vested interests in a hospital expansion.

There is an inherent conflict of interest when executives at Mt. Sinai Hospital are being appointed to the local community board and getting dubious accolades from the political base with an agenda. The celebratory coverage from the Western Queens Gazette is in no small part to the fact that Mt. Sinai Hospital is a major advertiser.

TRUE, BUT ASTORIA WAS NEVER PREDOMINATELY GREEK - IT JUST HAD BIG MOUTH DELIS TELLING EVERYBODY THAT AND NOW HE IS GONE.

IT WAS ITALIAN. NOW ITS MEXICAN.

BUT THE FORCES THAT HOLDS UP THE MACHINE ARE STILL FIRMLY IN PLACE:

1. WORKING CLASS PEOPLE THAT ARE ACCUSTOMED TO TAKING ORDERS.

2. MEDITERRIAN AND BALKAN PEASANT STOCK - TONS OF PUBLIC MONEY GOES INTO ITALIAN AND GREEK PROGRAMS TO BUY THEIR SUPPORT - AND THEY GIVE IT. THE REST, AS THE ARABS, ARE AMONG THE TWEEDED.

3. LAUDITORY PRESS - LIKE WHORES, MAY HAVE NO RESPECT, BUT THEY DELIVER THE GOODS.

4. CLUELESS SENIORS, USED TO THE ANNUAL ALBANY THEATER OF FUNDING, ALWAYS GOES WITH THE 'NICE BOY' THAT RESTORES IT.

Furthermore,Aravella Simotas seems very uneasy and sophomoric when it comes to the issues.Mr.Pearson on the other hand seems cool, calm and much better informed than Simotas.

TRUE, BUT THE PROGRESSIVE SUPPORT FOR PEARSON HARDLY MAKES A RIPPLE ANYWHERE IN ASTORIA, BE IT THE STORES, DEMOGRAPHCIS, OR FLAIR OF THE COMMUNITY.

AND COSTA WAS NOT SELECTED CAUSE HE IS INVOLVED WITH GROUPS THAT HAVE THE TERMINITY TO THINK AND QUESTION THE DULL OILY MORASS THAT GOES FOR CIVIC DISCOURSE IN THAT PART OF QUEENS.

This is an invention by the clubhouse to try to supprot Mimosa or whatever her name is (understand she is Gianaris's neigbhor) and is part of that tight clique that lives around Vallone and D'Amico and who never experienced that blackout and are not getting rezoned like everyone else.

Mimosa, that is funny.

Why is Con Ed paying for the hospital? They are the whipping boy for everything?

If you ask me, they know more about power generation and delivery than Vallone or Gianaris.

The folks in LIC did not believe Gioia who fed them that crap and get rid of him because he did.

One down and two to go.

Need money for hospitals? Why take trees from my block?

Go after the developers. Or better yet, divert the corporate welfare (read taxes) for the developers (who are creating this crisis by piling more people into a community that clearly doesn’t need or want them.)

That will pay for hospitals.

Indeed, why don't they enact a 'Pistilli Tax?'

You build units, then you have to give back to the infrastructure support for schools, sewers, hospitals, etc. on some formula.

Gianaris is a Hack.
Simotas is a crybaby.
Vallone is a liar.

Hell, that is the whole purpose behind the rezoning. Give a homeowner the opportunity to build a room for grandma (they tell us) and (using the loophole) a Vallone campaign donor can built a 15 story building.

CB 1 THE COMMUNITY BOARD FROM HELL.

As a former Gianaris supporter I am DISGUSTED by the racist attacks being lobbed by Simotas/Vallone/Gianaris faction of astoria.

Astoria deserves better than these 3 stooges.I am also very troubled at how they muscled Costa Constanidis out of the race. Those 3 always play up race and religion when it is convenient for them, and its a disgrace.

I will vote for pearson because he represents all of astoria not just one clannish, corrupt group of anti-american southern europeans.

Of course, since he moved into the district last week, what would you expect ?

sure, after serving a community for 3 generations, its time to rip out the pipes, cash in your chips, strike the tents, and leave desolation in your wake.

Mimosa who?

Is she that young girl (in pink) looking at the ground at the spot the Vallones assigned her, and holding a sign Mystery Man Gianaris gave her?

Because the people that are deciding what happens to your block, Penny Lee, Baloney Maloney, even Gianaris, Vallone, and most of the community board don't live on your block, and in most cases, your community.

How does it feel to live in the 3rd world?

Well we can turn things around by rejecting Gianaris' hand picked candidate(Simotas)by voting for a Real Accomplished community leader as in Jeremiah Pearson.

Most of the negative comments are directed at gianaris.Last time I checked he was a man.so who is attacking women?Simotas is so sad, hiding behind her skirt already.
