5 additional Queens schools to close

From Fox 5:

Health Commissioner Thomas R. Frieden and Schools Chancellor Joel Klein announced that the City Health Department has recommended closing the three school buildings in Queens for up to five school days after documenting unusually high and increasing levels of influenza-like illnesses. The buildings will be closed beginning Monday, May 18.

The schools are:

I.S. 25 in Flushing, Queens. Twenty-seven students were documented with influenza-like illness last week.

M.S. 158 in Bayside, Queens (Marie Curie School). Forty-one students were documented with influenza-like illness last week.

Our Lady of Lourdes in Queens Village. Thirty-seven students were documented with influenza-like illness last week.

And from the Daily News:

Though no students fell ill at the World Journalism Preparatory High School or special education school 233, they will both be closed because they are located in the same building as IS 25.

UPDATE 10:20am 5/18/09: NY1 is reporting that the DOH & DOE are examining high rates of absenteeism at 40 schools throughout the city.

Yeah that's priceless, especially since his readership is part of the problem, by hiring cheap foreign labor to cut their lawns and whatnot. They are also the ones who complain the loudest about the "people living in the bushes."
