What was promised

From the Queens Tribune:

Sources say the Progressive Caucus was originally split, 12-9, between Mark-Viverito and Dan Garodnick, with Garodnick getting the support of County Leadership.

That’s when the calls started, with the Progressive Caucus telling Council members that they had the votes, and that if a Council member pushed back, those committees would be gone.

“If you’re not with them, you’re not getting a committee,” QConf was told.

Among the promises made to the Queens delegation, Julissa Ferreras (D-East Elmhurst) would be named Majority Leader. Jimmy Van Bramer (D-Woodside) would head up the Finance Committee and Daniel Dromm (D-Jackson Heights) would get the Education Committee.

Daneek Miller and Donovan Richards (D-Laurelton) were also reportedly promised committee slots, although specifics were unknown as of press time. melissa mark-viverito

“The other three we know, because they were openly talking about it,” a source said.

Republican Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Ozone Park) was also reportedly promised a committee chairmanship in exchange for his support of Mark-Viverito.

Sources within the real estate industry, who supported Ulrich in his most recent election battle, have expressed disappointment with Ulrich. The sources say that they feel betrayed, since Ulrich promised he would stand against the Progressive Caucus, but instead went back on his word for a promised chairmanship.

QConf was also told that David Greenfield (D-Brooklyn) was offered the Land Use Committee as a means of swaying Brooklyn.

this actually may be a good thing.Could possibly lead to lower rents and for renters rights

it better be

Renters rights? Yeah, deblasio sure stood up for those

Wow, buying votes with promises of committees and lulus - how progressive.

Geniuses... You want as Council speaker an individual who will say "No" to the mayor, when it's required. Look what happened with Quinn. An adversarial relationship is absolutely essential. Deblasio & Mark-Viverito is a formula for disaster, aw hell Deblasio alone is bad enough, throw her into the mix and we're well and truly fucked...

They pledge allegiance to themselves and their lust for power.

WHY?

The biggest problem is not City Hall but starts with your local councilman and your Albany delegation. One treats you like an ignorant serf and the other is the laughing stock of the county.

And you say nothing.

Word I am hearing is that Jimmy Van Bramer really beat out Dan Dromm for the top spot. Somehow Van Bramer tricked Dromm to be out front and take all the heat, but Van Bramer got the important committee. Under DeBlasio, the Education committee will be irrelevant.

Threats and secret deals? Did anyone think the voting in De Blasio would change anything?

The Veterans of Queens are going to stand for the selection of Mark-Viverito who hates the American flag?

Van Bramer is very smart and will be in the leadership in the Council. A real citywide player in the future. Dan Dromm seems to have been pushed aside here and his time has passed..

If you look at what Councilman Van Bramer did with the Respoli crime, you see why his meteoric rise is well deserved.

Where was Dromm on this issue ? Maybe he helped, I am just not sure if he did. I guess he is term limited so his circumstances are different. I wish him well too in whatever he chooses to do.

Finally, after all these years, there is no confusion who the unquestioned leader of the LGBT community in Queens is and that is Finance Chair Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer. Bravo Councilman. An honor well deserved.

Nice try. The Rispoli murder happened in van Bramer's district, that's why he was all over it. It also was never established that it was a hate crime.

IOW: He should serve the priorities of landlords and developers and screw his constituents.

Typical, cynical gop thinking. No wonder they are on their way out.

Anyone who thinks the GOP has a monopoly on being landlords and developers really needs to pull their head out of their ass.

Here's something you might not know about Mark-Viverito - she supported amnesty for a convicted FALN terrorist. I like the quote from Dan Halloran, who when he received Mark-Viverito's petition stated, "this terrorist, like all terrorists, should rot in jail forever."

Anon #13, if you think that the new mayor and his progressive hordes are going to serve the people's interests then you must be one of the political elite, a developer, a lobbyist, a big donor or a rabbi who controls 5 different charities, if not I wouldn't be so smug just yet

Comrade Daniel Dromm as head of the Education Committee is an excellent choice, he can surely teach our young boys quite a few useful lessons.

Comrade Julissa Ferreras is a wise choice. I hope Comrade Ferreras can find a position for Comrade Ivettelis Rodriguez too. Comrade Rodriguez is very familiar with motorcycle clubs, and these clubs could be valuable in providing security at city concerts, similar to the Rolling Stones Altamont concert in 1969.

My only regret is that a financial genius such as Comrade Liu or Comrade Weiner should have been considered for the Finance Commitee, but Comrade Van Bramer should be up to the task.

Did you not read the first part of the post? A council speaker should be the NO to the mayor's birdbrained proposals, not an apologist to the shithead ideas of a socialist, left wing political hack with no executive experience whatsoever.Oh wait I just described Obama, Biden and most of congress too didn't I. See how well THAT'S working!

So how far will they get if the other 50 d*ckheads on council stop then?

You know, like with Bloomberg, they don't.

Most of the council is there because, as Gotti-esque soldiers, they are loyal to a local political crime family, not because of service to their community or city.

He is very smart in a sneaky cunning underhanded way. Pols have long memories and his groveling around Quinn will not be forgotten.

He his here because of his ties to the deep pockets of the Queens Library Board of developers and the wonderful world that ilk lives in. Look at Dutch Kills and Hunters Points are in the process of being ruined and displaced.

But that is Queens.

Now lets see how Stonewall's magic will work in real communities with real civics in the other boroughs.

Van Bramer did a real good job skyrocketing ahead of Dromm.

Anonymous said...

It makes sense for Dromm to get the education committee because he was a teacher. Don't know what this talk about "skyrocketing" past each other is about. I didn't know there was a contest for biggest asskisser.

Jimmy Van Bramer is going to be the next Speaker. He will use the Finance Committee to round of votes citywide.

And he is a much bigger ally to Veverito than Dromm. Even last week, Veverito cancelled an event with Dromm and I hear the new Finance Chair weighed in and killed the event.

THAT is power politics.

One source said assignments are still fluid and that Greenfield has been promised the Finance Committee chair. Another claimed that Manhattan Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez will be the next Education Committee head. - NY Post

I will laugh my ass off if this is true and the Queens kiss-asses get frozen out.
