That last shot says a lot. The absolutely filthy air from coal and unfiltered gas engines, incinerators and manufacturing plants.

NYC was still that way in the 1960's. MUCH better today.

Today, everyone dresses like a slob. Back then, even the slobs were well-dressed.

"Today, everyone dresses like a slob."

GTA - this is the result of progressive thought. Dressing neatly was one of those cultural norms that was broken down along with family values and being independent and not needing government help for every little thing.

Amen.

Amen is right. Damn right.

And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Good post, good points.

Inflation people! Real wages were higher, thus you could afford to dress nicely.

Don't believe me? Try clothing a family of four on a single income like they did back then.

Oh please. People choose to dress down. A lot of the dirty t-shirts, absurdly tight jeans, flip flops and crocs - the ugliest shoes ever produced, ever - cost plenty.

Sure there's inflation, but people today choose to look like bums and hookers. Don't kid yourself.
