From Lost City:
...I hadn't been able to get back to the neighborhood until this week, and this is what I found. Closed up. From the looks of the posters in the window, it shuttered right after the Super Bowl. Inside, it's empty. Glendale loses another remnant of its German past.

Morscher's Meat can't be beat!
Its terrible to see another Ridgewood institution lost.
Another Bodega selling lottery tickets to tweeds will likely replace it
We all used see Karl Ehmer walking to school (JHS93) every morning outside or walking to his shop.
Kind little elderly man, always Jolly greeting people and sweeping. His sidewalks were immaculate.
He was no doubt very rich by then but still swept and hosed his own sidewalks and walked between his home and stores.
I think he lived on Stier st under the El.
Oh Well
It will probably re-open as a hal-al butcher.hal-al= meat transported in non-refrgerated vehicles,yum.
The big Karl Ehmer's Store is still in Ridgewood. But I have to agree with poster #1 Morscher's is the best!
I still miss the Forest Avenue Pork Shop. New York is going to Hell.
Yeah - I felt bad too when the one on Main Street Flushing closed years ago.
What or who is German in Glendale? Open a taco place and tons of these short people show up!
With each butcher closing, Glendale is losing its Teutonic soul.
I know !
The "Fallout" is spreading east.
Glendale isnt that bad yet.
My House on Seneca ave (Ridgewood) has them next door.
There is not one German on the block and its all Stier houses.
Ridgewood is shot south of Forest ave.
I will not rent to them.
Once a child or infant is in the house they stop paying rent and it takes a year to get them out thanks to the scumbag housing court.
Sometimes landlords are even ordered to pay the gas & electric bills during this.
By then the squat monsters have added room dividers and destroyed every room in the house.
Another loss of White culture.
I hadn't been down Myrtle Avenue in years and was taken aback. Tattoo parlors, bodegas and a Muslim Temple.
What a shame.
Well the owner of this shop ran it into the ground. He had a lot of problems and he wasn't around enough to manage it. Plus they always cheated you there with the 'it's just a little over' line on every weighed purchase. They are German, the masters of precision engeering, and they work in a deli and they don't know what half a pound looks like?
The funny part is, This time, its the Polish that is pushing the Germans out!
Polish? Try Hispanics from Bushwick.
The Polish aren't pushing the Germans out. The Germans Built the area, that can never be disputed. Most people are amazed that Glendale and Ridgewood remained as German as they did for as long as they did simply because there hasn't been a German immigration to the U.S. since the mid 1950's. From what I understand is that the feeling in the Polish-American community is that they are grateful for the Germans for building such a beautiful area and keeping it European all these years. It allowed the Polish immigrants a place to spread to after Greenpoint became overcrowded and overpriced. The Germans built Ridgewood and it's beautiful, maybe the Polish will keep the area just as nice in the coming years.
They didnt even have power for the last several MONTHS of the shop being open...
They relied on a (probably) illegal gas generator that was (100% illegally) parked outside the store.
It was filthy and noisy and a REAL blight on the community.
I hate to see a small business fold, but after the disrespect and lack of compassion they showed with that generator.. I was glad to see them out of the community.
