Astoria not too thrilled with state budget

Mr. Silver, the Assembly speaker, achieved what he wanted in the budget and emerged as the capital’s center of gravity so that you will be paying the highest posible taxes ever.

Big dog Silver is riding atop the Governor whom does not yet realize what hit him.

Astoria doesn't get much from Albany, and doesn't because they never criticize their reps 'Bricklayer' Onorato and 'Conned' Gianaris.

Both stink.

In Astoria there is the fascade of civic involvment: your volume of criticism is in reverse proportion to someone's actual impact in your life.

For example, the President (if he is Republican), the Governor (if he tries to reign in tweeder spending), the Port Authority (the airport is always a cheap shot that gets nowhere), the NYS Power Authority (ditto), the Mayor (unless he tramples rights to give developers another day), God (well I'm having fun, but you get the drift)

Anyone that can actually do something? City Council? State reps?

Vorboten. You never never never say a bad thing about them.

And as a consequence, Astoria is going to hell in a handbasket.

I love the diverse! shopping found at El Mundo Discount and the vibrant! day laborer culture on Broadway. There is nothing like the roving Taco Truck or the decor in my building, a shiny new one, like back in my hometown of Fargo ND.

I was invited to be a mod on astorians.com and want to do so because we must be very careful that bad people (native born and those with agendas) do not make our community look bad.

Astoria is such a wonderful place. I do not want any property values to decrease.

I was even invited to a local political club meeting and met a lot of older guys who thanked me. It was great, except I did not like all that smoke.

NoGoFargo,

Next time use note cards or a teleprompter. It seems like you strayed off message because that rant is confused and confusing. What are you trying to say to us?

John Liu is horrible, I tried to speak with him and he was so rude and told me he had no respond for me. No vote for this man whose daddy stole million from bank. He is horrible.

Dear Nice Tall Building. Let's hope it stays in your backyard instead of on your head.

I think the point that the poster was making is this: in Astoria the problems come from many places - Washington, Albany, regional agencies, and yes, city council.

The problem is the state resprensation is weak, and city council always gets a pass.

No one in politics should get a pass.

That is a city agency. It seems a lot of people are not happy with that agency.

What did you city representative do?

Well one thing is certain, her city representative has no problem having the city machinery bring in more development (and development big time) into a community whose power grid fell apart a few years ago.

A question you will never read in the paper but Crappy has the balls to ask: if you know Con Ed is bad (or at least you blame them) is this something smart?

Crappy Question of the Day:

Is the Mississippi flooding Fargo
worse than Fargo flooding Astoria?

To be fair, Genaris's office called the agency multiple times when this happened and finally got numerous inspectors from HPD.

My apartment was saved. Irene from Mr Genaris office worked very hard, and she and Mr. Genaris probably saved me from homelessness. This office was the only one that ever helped me.

DOB kept promising to come and mysteriously showing up minutes after I walked away to get lunch or buy groceries (in stores on my block).

I later check DOB records and found major inaccuracies including the suggestion that it was my damaged bathroom ceiling with the foam ceiling tiles instead of my livingroom ceiling with the 100lb slabs of concrete. No one from DOB every inspected this site although Fire Department and HPD did.

Signed, Lady whose Living room Ceiling destroyed furniture, television, family artifacts and nearly her life while meeting the living room floor.

That is funny, for a guy who has been in office for some time now, and is a real mystery (even to the Greek community) people keep on popping up to tell us what a fine hardworking guy he is.

This from an office that regularly tells groups in his community not to contact him for funding.

Funny....
