Ratner's architect thinks Atlantic Yards won't happen

From DDDB.net:

Frank Gehry, unchained and for the first time not toeing Forest City Ratner's PR line, proclaims Atlantic Yards is dead: Q&A: Gehry at 80

Q: ... Which other unrealized commissions do you most wish had been built?

A: The Corcoran Gallery in DC, the Atlantic Yards project in Brooklyn—I don’t think it’s going to happen. There are projects underway that are being threatened, and may not be completed. That would be devastating to me.

Hey Bruce, I know another architect named Frank who may be interested...

His comments were referring to HIS VISION being developed at the property.

We've known for some time that Ms. Brooklyn is not happening. And the Arena is being scaled down.

Ratner may just build the arena in Willets Point.

If he was talking about Miss Brooklyn, he wouldn't have said, "I don't think it's going to happen." He's already known for a year that it wasn't going to happen. He's talking about the rest of the project. Now the damage control by FCR will begin.

Thank the Lord we won't have to deal with an "exotic" Gehry atrocity in NYC.

Just ask those folks at MIT.

They've got a lot of trouble with his art/fart building.

The structure is is not very practical...requiring a lot of maintenance.

You think they'd know better
being the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Ol' Frank has managed to bamboozle a lot of his patrons.

You obviously dont know what the questioner meant by "unrealized commissions". Gehry knows what that means.

Ratner Statement Doesn't Deny That Gehry is Off Atlantic Yards

“While Bruce Ratner’s project is a big question mark, it seems clear that Frank Gehry — who was a major selling point for the project, its investors and its naming-rights sponsor Barclays — is no longer working on the project.”

Gehry was Commissioned to create a plan for Atlantic Yards.

He drew up an elaborate plan including an elaborate signature building that will now not be built to his plans.

He is upset that his drawings will not be realized.

How do you from this to AY wont happen?

If Gehry is off the project he has every righ tto be upset that his commission is unrealized.

Doesnt mean Ratner isnt building something there.

Atlantic Yards has been dead for years. It's a shame no one sent you the memo. An AY without Gehry is not the AY that was promised to investors and they will walk if they haven't already. The Nets don't even want to move here anymore.
