Parking placard abuse a problem in Forest Hills

From The Forum:

Complaints have long been lodged about parking abuse by privileged officials who display city-issued permits in the front window of their vehicles and occupy parking spots clearly marked as no standing any time zones.

Residents near Kew Gardens Road and 84th Road in Forest Hills say they know first-hand about the placard abuse—with at least three cars regularly parked in the clearly marked stretch every day.

The problem, according to those that live in the area, is that after confirming with DOT and traffic agents repeatedly that the permits do not allow for parking in these zones, the cars are never ticketed or towed. Neighbors say they have called the DOT, 311, the police station and the community board to no avail.

This is Kew Gardens, not Foret Hills. The 112 Precinct cops would never tolerate such a thing. The 102 Precinct I think covers this area. Call the head of the Community Counil and complain about this.

It's a problem in Forest Hills and Kew Gardens. Not only NYPD placards, but handicap too. Those people just park anywhere they want.

I have one or two vehicles that park illegally in my area of North Flushing. One uses an Official license plate, and the other some form of police placard.

And you know what? I really don't care. If I fight it, and they then have to park legally, that's two less spots for me, in an area that's become increasingly hard to park in on ASP nights.

Most people get some "on the side" "benefits" in certain lines of work. I just consider this one of them.

It's a game. The DOT puts up more and more "NO STANDING" signs and people find it harder to park and scheme to get a placard.

One bad spot is 116th Street in Richmond Hill between Metropolitan and 84th Ave.

Almost every church and synagogue in Forest Hills and Rego Park has a car displaying a handicapped placard in the NO STANDING zone. Even during weddings and major holidays.

Try walking in front or anywhere near the 114 Precinct in Astoria. Double, or triple parking in front of the station, or on the sidewalks is just fine for New York's Finest.

Surprise, surprise, there's legislation on this that's going nowhere.
