Massive fuel leak in Sunnyside
MYFOXNY.COM - Hundreds of gallons of petroleum have leaked from a pipeline in the Sunnyside neighborhood of Queens.
Fire Department officials say the Buckeye Partners pipeline could have spilled as much as 500 gallons of fuel.
The leak was first reported just before Noon.
Hazardous materials crews are on the scene at Skillman Avenue and 37th Street.
Valves have been shut off to prevent further leakage.
MyFoxNY.com is updating this story.

More than likely not a leak.Morons have tried to tap into the line in the past,or perhaps a backhoe/construction accident.Usually that much isn't lost due to valves that are spaced about every 1000-1500 ft.
I work a block away and was just informed by the police that it could be 48 hours before our cars can be removed (if parked on Skillman). Those cars that were hit with the foam (to prevent fire) have to be towed and de-contaminated. ConEd, or some other company, has been working out here for 2 weeks. Typical.
At least it looks like the news got the name of a Queens neighborhood correct for once.
We don't need terrorists when we have fuck ups and rotting infrastructure to do the same job!
I stumbled into this fiasco on my way back home this afternoon, on my side of the 39th Street Bridge. I saw OSHA there. Something big, apparently. Little did I know.
Could it be that one of the contractors on the East Side Access Project accidentally hit the line?

How true. I watch Channel 7 Eyewitness News, and they're famous for getting it way off. What maps do they use for Queens?
What neigborhoods in Queens does this pipeline go through that endanger us?
As if a trillion gallons of petroleum under the streets of Greenpoint aren't enough already.
Perhaps instead of drilling for oil in the Middle East, we should be recovering it from the Queens leaks.
The pipeline(actually 2)runs from nj to both airports.Has been supplying jet fuel for over 45 years.
