Bedbugs in Jackson Heights apartment

Saw this on Curbed and thought it was worth a mention...

There's an open complaint about illegal conversion into SROs at this address and also numerous complaints about the elevators not working.

There goes the historic district!

J.H.ers may have blue lined out those unwashed Latinos living south of Roosevelt Ave. from moving over to 37th Avenue by landmarking their nabe, but that wont keep out their vigorous Latin bedbugs.

I wonder if the LPC has to approve the exterminators residents may choose....eh Jeff Saunders?

"La cuccaracha....la cuccaracha..."!

Colorful, diverse, vibrant
AND NOW VERY ITCHY Jackson Heights!

Better call Terminix!

I think I just heard "Salvatore"
wake up!
I suppose we can be expecting to hear from him any moment now.

Sounds like Gallagher has moved to Jackson Heights.

This area is all people from the Middle East. They took over this apartment building and the postman doesn't want to deliver mail there....that is how bad it is. Full of bugs, dirty.

The Department of Health needs to intervene. It is disgusting.

At one time this building was for the elite. What a shame!

Having bedbugs has nothing to do with cleanliness. There are apartments in the ritzy area of Park Ave. and five star hotels with bedbugs. It's just as likely someone went on a fancy vacation abroad and returned with bedbugs in his bag.

There is a correlation between roaches and cleanliness.

Those "ritzy" apartments
(and even some 4 star Manhattan hotels) are often serviced by employees from various 3rd world nations who may not be necessarily so clean themselves.

They could be transporting their six legged buddies to the workplace!

Carrying a can of "Raid" around
with you makes sense these days!

Do those bedbugs automatically attain landmark status if they're found within the historic district?

Bedbugs also lives in movie theatre seats and airline seats.

You can get them from almost anyplace that has upholstery.

Nevertheless,
this DOES NOT bode well
for Jackson Heights
real estate!

Living in close proximity to 3rd worlders poses all sorts of additional problems.

I can't believe the racism on this message board. Immigrants are not the cause of bedbugs. Bedbugs have resurged because we no longer use DDT to kill them. Why don't you move back to some white-supremacist leaning country in Europe if you don't like living in a multiethnic city like New York.

Sorry, the NY Times disagrees with you: "In the bedbug resurgence, entomologists and exterminators blame increased immigration from the developing world, the advent of cheap international travel and the recent banning of powerful pesticides. Other culprits include the recycled mattress industry and those thrifty New Yorkers who revel in the discovery of a free sofa on the sidewalk."

Just Try to Sleep Tight. The Bedbugs Are Back.

Get off your Racism card!!!! PLEASE ,I never even heard of Bed Bugs until we became overrun with illegals!! Sad but true and when you have so many people living together in close quarters like that it is extremely unhealthy and uncivilized!!! I see people dragging those dirty mattresses through Flushing everyday, just foul!!!
