5-year old dies in fire

A 5-hear-old boy left home alone - and locked inside his family's Queens apartment - was killed Thursday when a fast-moving fire ripped through the flat, authorities said.

5-year-old locked inside apartment perishes in fire

Jason Guallpa died curled up behind a TV, apparently where he ran to hide from the smoke and flames that eventually killed him.

Firefighters recovered his body in the 98th St. building in Corona after dousing the fire and searching the charred apartment, said Assistant Fire Chief John Acerno.

Apparently his 24-year old big brother was arrested for leaving him home alone.

Here's an angle none of the papers seem to have picked up on:

This house had multiple complaints for illegal conversion and illegal wiring.

The DOB should be held legally responsible - why is it that we need to continiously read about these tragedies - the DOB should preventing this by enforcing the law!

Our neighborhoods are rift with homes illegally converted to multifamily homes and cheap illeagal wiring, yet alone illegal dormification by owners.

Yes, and where are the affordable housing or immigrant advocacy groups?

You NEVER hear them complaining about these things.

Considering they are funded by the clubhhouse, their interest is very simple: build more housing!

People killed as residents or on the construction site? - collateral damage.

NY's greatest problem in plain view that everyone can see:

illegal conversions.

Curious why those folks over at COMET are acting like a bunch of asses when it comes to building inspections.

Very curious.

Will DOB Commissioner Lancaster call the cops on herself for the death of this child?

Will Commissar Bloomberg kick her lazy arrogant ass around the block for the death of this child?

Well, no. Not really. Why not? The death of a child (of an illegal alien, I'll bet) is the cost of doing business of harboring and exploiting illegal aliens in this city.

The death is the price (small price - he paid no taxes) of taking kickbacks from building owners and developers who make these officials rich.

Death for profit is murder!

Once again, Daniel Weintraub, PLUMBER. Doesn't the DOB ever connect the dots? He works for Tommy the notorious too.

Seriously, at what point do the police get involved so inspectors can gain access to these places and condemn them? Reading the violations, they say over and over, "could not gain access/ denied access, etc?" WTF?

It's a shame that the death of this child has turned itno political fodder. How about some sensitivity? My heart goes out to the family of this child.

Don't misread the posts - all of us wish to have prevented this from occuring to this child by upholding the law for safe and responsible housing. Clearly this is not being done and as a result there is an ongoing series of tragedies exactly what is family is experiencing. Housing laws were enacted to prevent this, but the city turns their back on this.
