Elected official finally shows up to Maspeth protest

So an elected official from the other side of Queens, Tony Avella, attended the Maspeth shelter rally last night, but no electeds that actually represent the area have thus far.

In the meantime, the DHS is denying all FOIL requests for information about the contract.

If there was any reason to appreciate Tony Avella any more....this is it. Honestly, the Tammany style politics aren't gone...they've gone underground...and are absolutely killing Queens. The folks blindly following politicians like Liz Crowley...are following a mirage...it appears she falls off the cliff, when in reality, she's directing the show...just like DiBlasio, Valloney in Bayside, Meng...etc.

The Democratic Party of today is selling you out. They're throwing you token that are worthless and only work in the carnival games they are providing.

Wake up!!!

He's (Avella) campaigning for mayor.. That's all a different kind of bluster nothing more...

He's been campaigning for mayor since 2006? Because that's the first time he showed up in Maspeth.

TONY AVELLA FOR MAYOR!
Wish it could be so...but it won't be. He is too much of a crusader and ruffles the feathers of all the complacent crooks that make up city government. His party dislikes him. His donors.....where are they? You have got to be in the pocket of the real estate developers to score enough money to run for a serious office. No...too bad....Tony will remain in Albany, where term limits do not apply. This is the secondary safe haven for most politicians ....unless....they are lucky enough to warm a seat in Congress. Now, there's a really great spotty be in. No worries about job security....great medical coverage...fat pensions...legal insider trading privileges. A lot of very wealthy senators in Congress.

Look the only way you can win is to make these people damaged goods - picket their homes, picket boro hall, go to Virginia Joes house, and write letters to the local press demanding coverage and then shearing them with Crappy cause we know they will not get printed.

This not only make those little people that are bullying us look like the fools they are, but even more critically makes the next crop of replacements that makes a career of politics -the district managers and chiefs of staff, start to question following the template that has been around since the days of Boss Tweed.

Unless you do these things, which are pretty much out of character for most of you, you are wasting your time. Sooner or later they will regain the upper hand and make you feel even more powerless and worthless.

Per that FOIL response letter, DHS is denying access to some records because it claims disclosure of them would "impair a present or imminent contract award." However, in this instance, the contract award has already occurred. Acacia Network has been chosen as the operator of the shelter and the Holiday Inn Express site has been chosen as the site. Any competitive selection process has ended, and disclosure of records cannot impair that which is already settled.

The FOIL denial should be appealed on that basis and others. On the issue of impairing a contract award, see http://docs.dos.ny.gov/coog/ftext/F19286.pdf

Say what you want about Tony Avella, but at least he showed up. Sad that the politicians who represent Maspeth are MIA, yet a politician from Bayside shows up to try and help us. Voters better pay attention come election time. The toilet needs to be flushed of all these hacks.

Grade "A" certified idiot. Avella by far the only politician who cares.
I have seen it with my own eyes, he shows up and things happen.
The rest don't even live in the district the represent!
Fuck them all.

ok guys, get over it. Avella showed up. we all get it. he is a great guy.

now stop getting drunk over your little victory, move forward now or risk loosing momentum.

hit them hard and steady where it hurts. they will never live down the adverse publicity and tarnished reputations.

the magic trance these people have over you will be once and for all broken.

When the RIGHT, ELECTED OFFICIALS SHOW up victory will be achieved.

Avella is THE BEST. The only honest politician is Queens. He walks into someone else's district and does their job for them. He's not campaigning.

The dem machine hates him because he does stuff like this and makes them all look bad, he exposes them. He goes into Stavisky's district all the time and cleans her clock. The Mets mega-mall? Guess who led the crusade against that? Avella again. The mosque in East Flushing? Avella. Flushing Commons parking nightmare? Avella. All outside of his district but important to Queens.

It is refreshing to have him here. He will have a hard time next election. The demographics are changing, and not in his favor. But he's done nothing wrong.

Doesn't the City Comptroller office vet all contracts? Didn't the Comptroller put a hold on the Pan Am contract? (until certain considerations were met?). Can a FOIL be requested of the Comptroller?

While an elected official showing up looks like support of a cause, unless something happens as a result (something more than a photo op), it is an empty gesture. All I keep hearing is how our elected (well, maybe YOUR electeds, as I did not vote for any of these yahoos) officials are on our side and don't want the shelter here. Anyone can stand in front of a camera and rage at a situation. An EFFECTIVE politician changes a situation. "But they support our cause" is not a reason to re-elect ineffective politicians. Remember this come election time....

Isn't it funny that Avella managed to get legislation passed to prevent sexual predators from being housed in family shelters, yet Marge Markey, who led a crusade against sexual predators this year, has nothing to say about it and failed to rally the assembly to also pass this bill.

Got that right. People just have no backbone to take the real action to put these bastards into their places - and the pols know that. With the least amount of resistance, the people will become divided (especially if a pol's staffer calls some loser a 'player' puffing up their ego and thereby not only winning their support but getting an ally to undercut the protest leadership).

Nope, this will fail as the public in Queens always fail and everyone will go home saying to themselves that they tried but 'you can't beat City Hall' without realizing that with a tincture of backbone and balls they could be camped out in City Hall.

Yes, Mr. Stringer. Who gave The Blaz a slap on the wrist in the Rivington Plunder. I guess the spontaneous implementing of the destitute, the mentally ill, disenfranchised families, and recidivist criminals to successful national chain hotels was also from staff mismanagement and nothing insidious at all. And our mayor had no clue at all, how can he when he's too consumed running a 501 (c) (4) in city hall.

Move faster, Preet. And honor that FOIL to Queens Progress.

If the poor dependent class was not the core base of the Democratic party they would have been forced out long ago,
AL Gores said when he ran again to Bush All I need is 13 states to win the presidency, those would be the 13 most heavily weighted Welfare States
Do you think your vote counts,LOL

Once again, the only Queens policy that does any work! Tony for Mayor!

Anonymous said...

I give credit to Tony showing up. But you've miss my point.

He is a placebo, when a real cure is needed, for the political corruption that runs rampant in NYC, under the control of the real estate industry.

If you insist on believing in a David wins over Goliath scenario,
then VOLUNTEER AND SUPPORT AVELLA WITH MONEY, otherwise shut up!

I intend to support him, putting MY MONEY where my mouth is!
Now, enough said!

Anonymous said...

Bah! Read this, if it gets posted.
Avella has made a career out of losing. But it's not his fault for trying hard to win.

Does he get to collect two pensions...one from NYS and another from NYC
when he retires?

Not a bad booby prize for his thirty five + years of trying to reform politics.

the correct site for FOIL (JUDICIAL WATCH) is info@judicialwatch.org

You got that right, AMEN
I made some suggestions (light non vehement ones) but those even get cut by the moderator. These family good class people are not tough & nasty enough or inclined do what its going to take to put these bastards in order.
At this point they it appears they are listening to the wrong advice, doing everything by the book. They may as well be singing John Lennon songs at that hotel. Problem is when your dealing with dirty underhanded gutter bastards in the gutter fighting dirty is exactly where you need to be !!

These people are going to get back-stabbed and sucker punched AGAIN. This time worse then what happened with that old church and woods.
Let em 'play nice" and learn the hard way I suppose .
