Jamaica rally postponed until Thursday

Community Leader's Letter of Support

DOBs’ Plan to Allow a Commercial Bldg Access over an Existing Gas Facility Imperils Residents’ Safety

Please be aware that the protest rally planned by the residents of this Jamaica, Queens neighborhood against a Department of Buildings (DOB) plan to permit a new commercial building to have their driveway over an existing National Grid underground Gas Facility has been postponed to accommodate for the NYPD protest permit process, which was started Monday morning.

The rally has now been moved back to Thursday April 21st, 2011 at the same time (5:00 pm) at the same location (the corner of 110th Avenue and Sutphin Blvd in Jamaica, Queens).

We apologize for any inconvenience and ask that you, kindly, update your schedule accordingly because your presence is vital to helping these residents get their story out in a way that would allow for proper review and a re-consideration of what is an accident waiting to happen if executed as presently planned.

For more information, kindly contact Mr. Felix Ogunkya, the point-person for the residents @: (917) 723-6500.

Thank you.

Thanks for helping spread the word on our rally. It was held yesterday as planned and Queens Chronicle was kind to keep their promise to cover it by sending their reporter; Ms Costella, to the event. We are appreciative, and hope the broadcast stations that promised but couldn't make it yesterday would work with us on doing the story another day...soon: the residents are willing to do this again because we are determined to keep pushing until something breaks our way.
Thanks to "Anoynymous" from Bellerose who, in the finest example of camaraderie, came to the event even though it was not in his area. We are profoundly grateful for that and honored by your presence. Please, stay in touch and we'll keep you abreast of developments here (you'll find the necessary contact info in the post).
