Non-working hydrants hindered Glendale firefighting efforts

Maybe we should be paying more attention to the condition of our critical infrastructure instead of shiny new trolleys and such.

Just sayin'

Yes, and I'm sure you can thank that whole plaza construction crap for that
Closing off perfectly good streets just to cover them up with concrete?
Millions of our tax money pissed away, for what?
Increase the misery factor for drivers?
Eliminate parking?
Oh yeah, traffic "calming"
There are NO calm drivers anymore with this zero miles per hour bullcrap
How are the local businesses doing?
Make sure you call ALL the local officials standing on that rickety platform on Memorial Days smiling for the cameras and giving useless speeches about how wonderful they are at supporting Veterans
At the plaza that they PROMISED would be completed for Memorial Day to honor those who served and are no longer with us
Guess they forgot to mention WHICH Memorial Day
If it's proven that the plaza construction is the cause, it'll be the ultimate irony for Glendale!

Queens is burning again. I wonder how long those hydrants were inoperable, because I have seen a lot of them rusted, damaged and even missing caps in my area.

The FDNY arrives and only THEN finds out that 2 hydrants are broken? They don't inspect the operability of the street hydrants BEFORE a conflagration?

Construction crews have been digging up the streets in that area for a year changing the gas and water lines. Did someone forget to hook up the hydrants? If so will the contractor be held liable? We'll see.

Just wait until a truck or car plows into that pedestrian space. It is a very busy and dangerous intersection now made even more dangerous'

Engine 286 and Ladder 135 are located about ten block west on Myrtle.
These firemen and their officers didn't know which hydrants were operable??

Good thing these questions were asked, because in the few articles and 30 second reports on TV and radio, these inquiries were not even brought up. This is a scandalous display of incompetence and ignorance.

Nothing more ignorant than building a park on a tight street intersection in a dense commercial and residential area. Are officials aware that there is a humongous park name Forest just a short stroll from there?

Regular fire house crews inspects hydrants but it never seems to be on any sort of schedule. And the fact that firemen have to do this work speaks volumes to how little the city gov gives a shit about maintaining hydrants.

I live on 70th - the plaza which I guess will have 4 benches and one water fountain in the full sun with no shade along 2 major intersections they've made that entire segment of Glendale dangerous. Walking my kids all the cars are using the gas station to make up as a cut through for the closed roads. Even with this fire cars had nowhere to turn as both streets that used to get you down to central are now closed off for blocks. The neighborhood is getting worse and now with these 2 burned down we'll see what happens.

City employees? Not my job to check the hydrants.

Where do I pick up my disability check???

"The neighborhood is getting worse..."

Have they installed a Streetside Infiltration Swale along the plaza yet? ; )

Who needs fire hydrants in this overcrowded city, that is considered a luxury, like grass, trees and speaking English.

The plaza is beautiful!

The concrete is so smooth with the lovely brushed texture lines.

I cannot wait for the grand opening and the wonderful speeches from the great politicians that made it all possible.

It will be so nice to have a new destination where I can feed the doves, pigeons and other local avifauna...

at least the murders haven't skyrocketed - YET

"When seconds count, the cops are just minutes away."
"I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy."
we still need our guns
