Mudanza trucks picking up mattresses

"We have an ongoing problem with the Mudanzas (moving) trucks, often not legal, picking up filthy mattresses throughout the East Elmhurst and Corona neighborhoods. We complained to buildings and even the DMV because none of the license plates are from New York state. They park these trucks (sometimes even with the mattresses stored on top) for days in residential streets. We don’t have enough parking as it is now that there is metered parking on both Astoria and Northern Boulevards. No one does anything about this. We plan to try and pursue it again with the appropriate offices, but we know that they are swamped.

We are sick of the quality of life issues in the neighborhood. The most recent thing going on is this ‘rave’ parties with over 100 young adults in attendance. No one does anything to permanently stop repeat offenders from throwing these things, which take place in the middle of the work-week. We emailed Katz’ office about that as well as spoke to the captain at the local precinct. There was property damage when one of these events took place this past Saturday and they usually end with police, fire and ambulance showing up. They were even fighting with the cops (who were outnumbered) to the point that backup had to be called in. A real mess! Thanks for listening." - anonymous

The sonic warfare that was blaring throughout northeast Queens last night was louder than the planes at LaGuardia. I live in College Point directly across the bay from the airport and the bass was making my poor dog flip out, she kept trying to run away. Whether it's the latinos in the streets or some party boat parked under the bridge this is driving all of us absolutely insane and after last night I would like to know what can be done to combat this stuff... it's louder than the planes!!! How can that be legal?

This is fun city redux now.

You can complain, call the cops and you would right to do so, but nothing is going to be done. Because if you shut down these house parties, not only do they have more rights because of the leniency shown by Mayor De Faustio, but they can easily cite that similar obnoxious parties are thrown on tower rooftops and patios and in apt. buildings in the gentrified areas and they hardly see any repression so why should they.

And the lack of enforcement on every new bar that's opened up in the past 2 years with the open bay windows with spillage of every drunk and screaming hipshits clogging the sidewalks.

For to shut these parties, you will be suppressing the vibrancy in action. Which has taken priority over infrastructure and various civil services in this damn and doomed city.

It's a retarded gilded age we all are living in.

Can you imagine the bedbugs that are in these mattresses and trucks? The dept of sanitation has strict laws to contain the outbreak, and these trucks pick these up usually to re-cover them and resell. They need to just burn the mattresses.

The plane noise is much more dangerous than a "Rave" party boom box. I feel your pain because I cherish peace and quiet but the shameful NYC "electerds" don't believe it is a serious issue. The noise and air pollution released from the LGA Jets causes hypertension, lung disease and cancer plus it is causing learning difficulties in our children.

This is my neighborhood. And I have seen these trucks around. Now I just want to move away because I'm sick of it all. We had people down the street that started a party yesterday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and they got quiet at 10 for about three hours, and we thought they were done, but no they started up again at 1 o'clock this morning and went home we had people down the street that started a party yesterday at 1 o'clock in the afternoon and they got quiet at 10 for about three hours, and we thought they were done, but no they started up again at 1 o'clock this morning and went until four. I pay taxes and I work hard. I shouldn't have to live like this. No one should and we really need to take a stand. I plan on attending community affairs meetings and community board meetings because this is outrageous. I would love to know what they plan to do about this. Plus they got the stupid new noise law saying that the police can no longer break up noisy parties unless the homeowner allows them to come on the property. So they just do whatever they want to, knowing the police can't touch them, and we have to live through it all night. Yet they can go there the next day and issue a violations, after the fact . Dumb idea by the city ! No sleep last night !

Your first mistake was not launching a very public media campaign against your councilman, community board, and Queens weekly that does little besides publicize ad sponsors.

Your second mistake was not launching a very public media campaign against your councilman, community board, and Queens weekly that does little besides publicize ad sponsors.

Loud music and parties (usually with drug use and ignored children in tow) are a chronic problem citywide, and the police and powers that be don't care a damn thing. It's as if they want native NY'ers to leave with this and everything else going on. It's a free for all city now.

My favorite NYC seasons? Fall and Winter - when the human cockroaches and vermin finally hibernate.

Quality of life issue? Sorry no one cares. That ship sailed years ago.

I took the LIRR out to LI the other day. I could not believe the graffiti in Queens. MTA property private property. Just unreal. What a shithole this place is.

Oh be sure to vote Den in November

Only dead bedbugs & eggs. The heat in the box truck to 160 degrees to sterilize then vacuum, steam clean & resell them.
Its become a huge business.

There are way too many Pennsylvania license plates in this city. When is the state going to crack down on this form on car insurance fraud?

OMG I am sure they putting new covers called ticking on them and reselling these horrific things. What bastards. I have seen them for years. Unless they are using the mattress's for decoy as they bring in illegal immigrants or illegal drugs.

One can just imagine how much DNA evidence is hiding within those mattresses...

THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 20 YEARS OR SO. YOU SEE IT ALL OVER CORONA, JACKSON HEIGHTS. THE LOCAL POLITICIANS TURN THE OTHER CHEEK BECAUSE TO CRACK DOWN THE BUSINESS WOULD SEEM AS IF THEY ARE PICKING ON A PARTICULAR GROUP (ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS). I'M SURE THEY ARE SEEKING TO PROVIDE PROTECTIONS FOR THESE INDIVIDUALS UNDER THE NEW STATE 'SANCTUARY' LAW.

THey steam them and resell them.
