Nicole calls for fair property taxes

From AM-NY:

Republican mayoral hopeful Nicole Malliotakis on Thursday outlined her plans to overhaul New York City’s property tax system, saying that if elected, she would establish a bipartisan panel to develop reforms.

Malliotakis, speaking at a news conference on the steps of City Hall, pointed to differences between her property tax bill and that of incumbent Democrat Bill de Blasio to illustrate what she described as “inequities” that result from the city’s current property tax code.

Malliotakis, a state assemblywoman who lives on Staten Island, paid $5,521 in city property taxes on her home that has a market value of at $549,000, according to 2017 property tax records. Meanwhile, de Blasio paid $3,581 in taxes for his primary residence in Brooklyn that is valued at $1.97 million, according to property records.

Under the city’s current tax code, the city caps how much a property’s assessment can increase from year to year to 6 percent. Activists who have been calling for a change to the code say the current law benefits property owners in booming communities such as de Blasio’s Park Slope neighborhood, because those property owners end up paying proportionally less in taxes than property owners in other outerborough neighborhoods that are experiencing slower growth.

“Four years ago, Bill de Blasio ran on a platform of closing the gap in the ‘Tale of Two Cities’ but he has done nothing to close it and seems perfectly fine with lower income middle class New Yorkers subsidizing the homes of millionaires, including his own,” Malliotakis said.

I also believe the tooth fairy will leave a winning lottery ticket under my pillow.
How do you know that anyone running for office is lying?
When they open their mouths!

If you bought your house in a neighborhood that was not expensive 30 years ago then you retire and your house is worth millions you shouldn't have to go from paying 5000 a year to 15,000 for example . That's why property taxes are capped and the newly assessed taxes are calculate only with a new owner.

Sorry, she has an "R" next to her name, so I have to vote for the incumbent who was just fingered under oath in "Pay to Play".

The taxes on my house in north flushing went from 1200 to 9000 in 20 years. More than twice what Bill pays with much less market value. That is insane. I’m not Greek. I’m not republican. I hate people that support trumpy. But I will vote for Malliotakis. Dump the dope.

I can see a problem with this - it could lead to skyrocketing property taxes in gentrifying neighborhoods, which would forcer poorer residents to sell and move out, exacerbating the problem.

Nicki is aware of the inequities of living in this city regarding the plain middle class and lower class neighborhoods and the trendy speculated/fabricated ones. She's on the pulse and putting the heat on de Faustio, putting his arrogance and hypocrisy in full display. The timing of the Daily News cover of Jona's plain spoken testimony adds to it.

Really, why one boxing glove. I see she's trying to evoke toughness but it looks silly. She would look cooler if she just put her dukes with tape wrapped around it. Or the letters debl asio on her fingers like Robert Mitchum and Radio Raheem.

Vote for the best person. Vote for the person that you actually want to see hold the job. But don't vote for (or against) someone just because they've been nominated by a particular party.

Even a turtle in the zoo can run the city better than mayor dumbdumb. They also need to put more taxes on these asians who claim to have "two family homes" but stick 4 different families in it. This is not so hard to find out, if the house has 4 water meters and 4 different mail boxes, I think its safe to assume that the house is NOT ONLY a two family house.

This piece of shit corrupt mayor expects senior and/or disabled citizens' to pay full rate, paperworks are lost even if it was sent in certified, signature requested.
Or no answers, just ignore the paperwork.
Asshole, did people get younger or healthier if one had an exemption the previous years?
DOJ investigation is in order for this monumental ripoff they call property taxes!
