Metrocard machine placement is pretty dumb

From NBC:

New Yorkers are used to things on sidewalks --muni-meters, bicycle racks and the bygone phone stands -- but those are always close to the curb. So neighbors are scratching their heads over the SBS MetroCard machines right in the middle of the sidewalk near the intersection of Cross Bay Boulevard and Pitkin Avenue in Queens.

"Somebody must have been drinking and put it in the wrong spot," joked store decorator Eddie Cavuto.

Actually, the Department of Transportation says the kiosks were installed exactly where they were supposed to be.

"Okay, the worker didn't screw up, but the architect was drinking and he screwed up," cracked Cavuto.

The DOT says the kiosks are for a new bus lane and bus stop arriving there, and "our standard is to align the fare machines and other Special Bus Service amenities (like wayfinding totems) with the back of our shelter."

"These enhanced bus stop amenities needed to meet our minimum sidewalk clearance requirements," the DOT said.

Unbelievable. Just rank incompetence. This city has got it in for Southeast Queens.

Where are these amenities they speak of? All I see are 5 foot metal obstructions.

"other Special Bus Service amenities"

What bugs me is we're paying some asshole $100K a year to dream this shit up....

Every other major city in the world is decades ahead of our technology. We will never see this new technology implemented. Its all a distraction by Cuomo and Lhota to make people think that the MTA is really thinking about the future.

Everything NYC agencies do is on a tentative basis. We are so far behind modern cities that what is done today has already been obsolete for decades! And the cost is mind boggling-- BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

First idiots bike lanes with surprise concrete barriers that drivers cannot see, then this shit.

Just more stupid shit to go with all the other shit in the shittiest city in the country. Worse subway system in the world. Worst airports in the country. Worst roads and streets in the country. AND more hotel homeless shelters than you can shake a corrupt elected official stick at.

Stupidity & no problem solving skills, must be prerequisite to work at a NYC agency or to be a NYC elected official.

DeBozo and his cronies will not rest until the whole city is destroyed by their stupidity.

Joe Moretti, no argument from me. Paradoxically, everyone wants to live in the crappiest city in the country, which is what makes everything so crappy.

Close enough for Government work.

This may be the first SBS line that gets shut down. The DOT has necked down woodhaven blvd to two lanes of traffic in at least 2 intersections so far!!! This will not work!!!!!!

Your mistake is thinking that those bottlenecks are an accidental side effect and not the actual intention of these projects.
