Charles Park needs some NPS love
In the past any problems at Gateway was usually met with "we are understaffed and under funded". Unlike NYC there is no 311 to call with problems, you can write them or leave a message and you might not get a response as is my case.
I've even wrote letters to local papers about the conditions of Charles Park and nothing is done. The condition of dead trees and dead limbs has existed for years and what would seem like a safety priority, isn't.
Recently a woman and her kids were clobbered by a branch in Central Park and the tree looked healthy and she's suing the city for $225 million. This is a cost effective measure for NPS, just hire a tree cutter now, this is an emergency situation.
My other gripe is that the bathroom which has just one bowl for men and one for women. This park has a children's play ground, tennis courts, ball fields, picnic tables and a beach, one bowl doesn't cut it.

The forgotten park.
I used to play baseball there, it was gorgeous back then. Way back in the 70's and 80's. I went there last year when the solar eclipse was going on and this summer on the 4th of July and the sights are dismaying.
I guess they can find funding by having some hipshits run a glamping site there. Since the NPS is already permitting TWO at Fort Tilden this autumn. Or maybe if they drop another fracked gas pipeline.
Where's your fearless leader Mr Addabbo??? Keep voting him in. A do-nothing .
Federal eh? Perhaps Honest Joe Crowely can do something for Queens
instead of spending all his time picking losers to put their feet on our necks
and climbing the party ladder by taking millions of donated money out of our community - his district - and giving it to Hillary's Democratic Organization - so they can poke fun at our way of life as they build the party with foreign transplants.
Yes back in the day it was a great park but now looks like most of the current Queens Crap parks.
@JQ LLC I use to lay on the hood of my car and watch the Jets from JFK.
"Where's your fearless leader Mr Addabbo??"
It's the NATIONAL park Service Dip, Addabbo has no control you need to be on Meek's ass about this. But he's too busy avoiding an indictment..
It's Addabbos district you fool.
"It's Addabbos district you fool."
Addabbo is a STATE senator and has no jurisdiction over National Parks, Ass
It's also in Amato's and Ulrich's district and it is not in Meeks' district. It's a FEDERAL park so the present overseer would be Trump. The neighborhood voted overwhelmingly for him so maybe he should make sure his minions at NPS do the park fix up Obama's, Bush's, Clinton's, and Reagan's minions never did.
Look who works at the NPS and that should explain everything. Same with NYC Parks Dept.
State, City, or Federal. It doesn't matter who does the fight for his/her constituents . Addabbo should have put enough pressure on NPS and his colleages to resolve this already. Obviously he is not the fighting type.
Be careful what you bitch for. Any of those modern upgrades (artificial turf fields, snack bars, rest rooms, WIFI) and the place will become a Hipster Real Estate destination-- something that everyone rails against on this site. The grass is cut. The place looks as good as any park I grew up with in the 1960s. Be grateful.
Obviously someone has a gripe with Addabo.
One would think that at least someone would put caution tape around the areas. There are workers there that maintain the park and also NPS Park Police patrol the park.Somewhere there is a disconnect. This is a serious safety issue and wouldn't be happening in a city park.
I called NYC Parks with the understanding that a few years ago a deal was made with NPS and NYC Parks that the city would help the feds maintain it's parklands.I was told by NYC Parks that is not the case.
