SWO ignored yet again at F*cked up Flushing house

From the Queens Chronicle:

A homeowner on Halloween allegedly tricked the Department of Buildings by treating himself to work on a Flushing house despite a stop-work order still being in effect on the property, city records show.

According to the DOB’s website, a person complained of construction going on at 30-35 150 St. last Saturday.

The city agency on Oct. 1 had ordered a stop to any construction there because the work being done did not match what the homeowner applied for. According to area elected officials and neighbors, the house is being enlarged when the permit only allows for minor interior alterations.

The homeowner, Eddie Peralta, did not respond to requests for comment on this story but in the past has denied he’s making the house larger.

This is the second stop-work order that has been ignored, according to the DOB. After the stop-work order was put on the house, Peralta allegedly continued construction and was fined $5,000 by the agency, but only after pressure from activists and elected officials.

Too bad the DOB didn't even look at the complaint until 3 days later.

I would like to know where are the local politicians - they hog the spotlight for anything self serving. Go to the community board and demand that they publicly insist that the electeds do something. Of course the community board is appointed by the same and will do nothing, but hell, even establishing that before the community is a step for forward.

The same thing is occuring around the block at 149-15 33 Ave. I told Paul Graziano about it with pictures of work during a SWO. He contacted DOB and Senator Avella's office. Someone filed 2 complaints with DOB. I could not because of the current problem with 311 online.

Also, at 149-15 33 av no violation was given or enforced. Why has nothing been done at this location but has at the one at 30-35 150 street?

It is easier to beg for forgiveness, than ask for permission!

Once the work is done, Are they going to make him tear it down? I think not.

The fines are just a cost of doing business.

If they do not close the roof there will be much more than $5K or $10K in cost or damage.

With the building half open, what will it cost to heat and keep pipes from freezing?

And I imagine people are still living there...

Maybe the people living at 149-15 have some political power if you know what I mean.

Dont you get it - if your politician takes a pass no one will think your cause is important. You got to drag those bastards into this mess to make something happen. They hate doing real work and they will do everything to make this problem go away.

So why doesn't the local precinct get involved ?

Easy enough to get a list of SWOs, and when doing patrol haul in anyone working at a building with a standing SWO.

"I could not because of the current problem with 311 online."

you are not alone. For there seems to be a concerted effort to suppress complaints from the true residents of this city to fortify the grand illusion of hyper-inflated market rates and the borough as a tourist destination.

I warned everyone about this last month. These people will never stop, they will outlast the good outraged citizens of the neighborhood. The DOB is highly incompetent and badly badly mismanaged. And they just don't give a shit. They are simply government employees that are directed by government employee lawyers. None of them give a shit about stuff like this. No matter how bad they screw up or how fucked up your community becomes, they still get their pay, their vacations, their benefits and their pension. Because they are government employees there is nothing you can do to them unless they are caught taking a bribe and that is probably not happening here.
