Guess who's on the payroll?

From NBC:

Former gang members will soon be paid to help fight crime as part of a new plan announced by Mayor de Blasio to help reverse an uptick in the number of shootings across the city. Government Affairs Reporter Melissa Russo has more on the "violence interrupters."

"Former gang members will soon be paid to help fight crime.."
What's next? Hire Guantanamo Bay prisoners to help us catch terrorists?

It's an outrage that a certain minority group that lacks family structure and is uneducated, continues to get more wasted tax dollars thrown to them to fix their problem. When will these people become responsible citizens? They have been given every opportunity to better themselves, but refuse to change. When will this madness end?

isn't it rude to interrupt?

I hope mr. melinda katz won't demand his angels weapons.

I think it's a great idea - actually employing people that know the community and the issues.

They are former gang members.

Most drug counselors are former addicts. I guess they should all be fired?

It's so amazing that former cokehead, alcoholic Bush got elected and here we have people trying to better themselves and serve the community and all you see are negative comments!

I guess (know) that only white guys with rich daddies deserve a second chance.

Check out the actor Danny Trejo - an ex-con who is known for his gang outreach work.

This is a positive move. The best way to stay out of trouble is to go to work everyday!

Rehabilitated people are usually really motivated to share the message and support others in their efforts to improve themselves!

No, not counseling, but past criminal activity should disqualify you from participating in law *enforcement*.

Is anyone representing Queens on that stage?

Stop and frisk seemed to be doing a good job keeping down the number of shootings.

The mayor has this program that employs former gang members to intercede with the criminal groups to reduce shootings and he wants to expand the program.

However shootings in NYC this year are up 12%.

To the boy mayor nothing succeeds like failure.

Were these former gang members employed? How much are they getting paid to advise?

Don't special gang related police task forces do that job already?

WTF, this is retarded.....

The problem in the past has been the man turning us against one another. We have been unable to see the truth, because we have fighting for ten square feet of ground, our turf, our little piece of turf. That's crap, brothers! The turf is ours by right, because it's our turn. All we have to do is keep up the general truce. We take over one borough at a time. Secure our territory... secure our turf... because it's all our turf! Can you dig it?

More tax dollars going to waste. Hip Hop Yoga to stop the violence by Erica Ford is another joke. Instead of a gang fight they'll have a dance off.

No good will come from this. At best, it won't be its own disaster... just a waste of money. That's the best we can hope for.

Hey Cyrus...
Take a course in local politics.
Everyone eats their own.

The Cyrus post is a quote from the 1979 movie "The Warriors" that shows exactly what is going to happen as a result of this legislation. Worth watching as a piece of NYC history.
