Crown Container deal may be dead

A source with knowledge of the negotiations said Thursday that complications have surfaced in the deal Crown Container Co. had reached in principle with the city. The agreement with the 23,000-square-foot waste transfer facility was never formally announced by the city, but owner Jerry Antonacci told the TimesLedger on Aug. 20 that he had agreed to sell his property to the New York City Economic Development Corporation and relocate to Maspeth.

Reached for comment, Antonacci said all hope was not lost for the relocation deal, but that the situation was “bleak.”

“As of right now we haven’t signed anything. We’re still trying to work through, but as of today it doesn’t look good,” he said. “But we’re still open to continuing negotiations with the city.”

The collapse of the Crown Container deal would be a setback for the city, which has so far signed agreements to acquire less than four acres of land in the 62-acre industrial enclave.

the word on the street is the city does not want to give crown a clean piece of property they want crown to pay for part of the remediation and crown refused . so much for the city wanting to clean up willets point when they can't even clean up their own land.

what a lovely picture. Lets keep this instead of housing and a clean environment.

the area in question is 48 acres not 62.

Accuracy is important. No mention of the significant acquisition of the MA Realty property?

not surprising.

Do A LITTLE Research before posting

MA Realty is a shell corp that owns the land under flushing auto parts.

Common big business practice to protect assets in the event of a lawsuit over for example shoddy environmental conditions

if the city wants to steal land without paying why is it every deal includes quotes from the seller that they received a fair deal??

MR ALL CAPS

if someone wants to pay me a fair price for my house what do i care if they put "CODOS" on it

imbecile

Look they're nervous because they thought they silenced Jerry Crown. The joke's on them. He is going to expose these thieves and liars for exactly what they are. Trying to pretend like they are making progress when they are really scamming the landowners and the public. EDC is trying to put all the WP businesses on contaminated land and then make them pay for it.

Look this anonymous poster who comes here only when there are WP topics and posts the same tired B.S. is not to be taken seriously.

"If someone wants to pay me a fair price..."

Yeah, what if you're not interested in selling? Then it's called stealing. If I took your Timex watch but threw $100 at you, it would still be stealing.

if im not interested in selling then only the government can file an eminent domain case that my land is blighted and prove that redevelopment is in the best interest of ALL taxpayers and they will STILL pay me fair market value.

thats the law.. not QC spin.

The city is excited that it made a deal with a shell realty corporation that does not have a business there but rents? Where is their fair deal quote?

you need a corporate finance 101 class

MA Realty is owned by the same people as flushing auto salvage. The "rent" is only an accounting trick to limit liability

You simpleton

As soon as I read about the Crown Container deal I knew the city was going to do something like this. You can't trust them for shit.

"Welcome to DWP. This is your source for the latest information on the City of New York's proposal to develop the Willets Point neighborhood."

Still no news about Crown on McShame's site. Wonder why.

Funny how garbage and auto salvage relocation is a priority but not manufacturing.

for the citys info flushing auto rents from ma reality flushing towing does not own the land 2 different people. crown trusted these thieves and got screwed . now the whole willets point group should watch these con artist thieves, all thet want is publicity. go get them crown start tearing them up again

go get em -

I suggest you try to master remedial penmanship and annunciation before you tackle corporate finance

Saw an ad today where they kicked the politicans and named names!

A step in the right direction, but more is needed.

Glad to see the suggestions of this board being put into practice.

" they tried to screw crown what do you think they will do to the rest of you? all their land is contaminated and they try to make a deal to pay 1/2 the price on paper and the rest in a discount on their land , and guess what if they go to eminent domain they pull out the 1/2 priced contracts and show the judge and screw eveyone again. what a great city huh?
