The ol' reliable 7 train went down again

From the Daily News:

More than 540 New York straphangers were evacuated from a No. 7 train inside the tunnel under the East River on Monday morning after a mechanical issue led the tube to fill with smoke, officials said.

At least one person had been injured in the evacuation, officials said. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known, but wasn’t considered to be life threatening.

The trouble arose about 8:30 a.m. when a device known as a sliding shoe, which transmits power from the third rail to the train, fell out of position, an MTA spokeswoman said.

The shoe, as a result, touched a protective board, which caused smoke to develop and the train to come to a grinding halt.

The FDNY brought in a rescue train to evacuate passengers from the stranded one.

Is this suppose to be news? The 7 train sucks! Then they are always doing track work on that line and it still breaks down like nothing was ever fixed on it!

And to think the 7 used to be the workhorse of the entire subway system. Safe. Reliable. Clean. Fast. WHAT HAPPENED?

When I used to take the 7 train daily I used to call it a cattle car. Others called it the 'Orient Express'.

I wouldn't have thought it, but it could actually get worse.

Isn't the subway system 'No Smoking'? Tell Bloomberg. He will fix it.

""WHAT HAPPENED""

Garbage on the tracks disloged something between the moving shoe and the 3rd rail. Busting up some ceramic insulators and cover board.
That's what happens when you have 1/2 the 3rd world riding trains like this.
Throwing all these slobs out would fix all the city's biggest problems !!! These 7 train pigs slurp noodles and things on that train with people packed & coughing around them like its no big deal then leave the garbage behind. Its now worse then trains in Bangladesh AND Beirut !!

Maybe the idiotic and thieving MTA should restore some garbage receptacles on the platforms...and there should be incentives for work being finished within a certain amount of time. DeBlasio's administration is so incompetent!

Never happen, that would mean $$ spent in Queens to maintain & monitor them due to terrorism. Manhattan comes first because of tourism and special interests.
Remember thanks to stupid voters Queens is no a dumping ground no longer considered part of New York City. Perhaps now voters learn the hard way. Just wait till all the neglected sewer lines nearing capacity start crapping out. Then its a super Big Fun surprise when you get home from work.
