Was elderly woman's death a gang hit?

From WPIX:

“I have no words for the person who did this,” [Benny] Webb said, referring to Leta Webb, a grandmother and parent to several biological as well as adoptive children.

The 70-year-old was gunned down at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday after answering the door to her family’s home at 119th Avenue in Jamaica, Queens.

One member of the NYPD informed PIX11 News that this particular vicinity of 119th Avenue and 153rd Street is not one that required much focus by the patrol lights of the NYPD. However, a few yards from where Webb was killed, the challenges of the neighborhood are evident.

Gang signs have been covered up on one wall. Clear tags show through on others signaling the potential gang component expressed by the family.

I wonder how many people are assigned to these crimes and how many are assigned to go after "jaywalkers" and cyclists.

Yeah. And they say Jamaica is the next up and coming neighborhood; the place to be. Bull shit!

This woman probably has dark secrets. And with the attitude toward "snitching" around that area, people aren't going to be cooperative, as that first guy Diaz interviewed showed.

No elderly person would answer the door that late at night unless he or she knew someone was in trouble. This woman was obviously deceived.

Last anon- nice lonely planet dig. Unfortunately, the tower pestilence will continue despite this gruesome incident.

#black lives matter

What time will the protests be and when will al sharpton be here?

Oh whoops silly me, she wasn't killed by a white cop, so all is well in the hood.

And this is what happens when the powers to be ignore certain areas and allow them to deteriorate over time. I mean what the fuck do the expect when the City over and over again just ignores quality of life issues in certain areas, you think it is just going to get better by itself.

This is a systemic problem not just in South Jamaica, but in many places of NYC.

"...And I said to myself, this is the business we've chosen; I didn't ask who gave the order, because it had nothing to do with business!"

For the city and state, some types of transgressions are low cost, high profit, others are high cost low profit.

Of course it's Jamaica. Crossing Archer Ave. is like crossing the Great Plains in a covered wagon unescorted.

Visit Queens, where people come to fly and die. Airports and cemeteries attract tourism.

This is a crash pad borough...eat and sleep then commute to Manhattan to work....return home and repeat the cycle. If we're lucky we can pump adrenaline walking through a high crime neighborhood.

Come back to Jamaica...home of vibrant diversity.

To me it sounds more like a gang initiation. "Go ring that doorbell and shoot whoever answers." The family says that the side door was the one that was used by people who knew the woman.

There is a more indepth story on this killing in The Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/queens-woman-70-gunned-answering-knock-door-article-1.2168007).

No doubt gang related and no doubt some shady shit from the get go as well.

What are the copstats from before and after we stopped policing under broken windows in this precinct? Are the gangs in less apprehension of police presence/harassment and therefore exerting a heavier footprint?

The Jamaica jungle! No matter how much money they pump into it I remains a lousy place to live. Oh, Jamaica Estates is fine, but venturing south of Hillside Ave. at night? No, no no!

It seems to be a trend in many black neighborhoods that homeowners are taking in foster kids that have troubled pasts. They cause havoc in neighborhoods that have hard working people. If you have foster kids you need to keep up with what they are doing.

I believe the murder rate will top 750 bodies this year. You can play with some Homicide numbers, but not many......

The first thing I thought of when the story was on the TV news was one of her foster kids had a beef with her or one of her kids.It was probably someone she knew if she opened her door at 1am.
