Queensboro name change not popular with Vallone

From the NY Post:

City Council Peter Vallone said today that he's opposed to renaming the iconic East River crossing after the 105th mayor.

“Mayor Ed Koch is truly a great man and deserving of an honor like this, but renaming a landmark so closely linked to our borough’s culture and history is not appropriate. The city would not rename the Brooklyn Bridge and the Queensboro Bridge should be treated equally,” Vallone said.

Mayor Bloomberg had proposed the honor last year to celebrate Koch's 86th birthday.

The re-naming requires approval by the City Council.

I agree.....leave it alone. Let it remain the Queensboro Bridge.

You can say that again.

This is the first time I agree with vallone.I think I can actually hold my nose and bring myself to support him now.

Way to go!

naming this bridge for the mayor with the most corrupt city government in n.y.c. history is a sin.

read "city for sale" by wayne barrett.

Babs said...

I agree too - let it be.

I like Koch - something should be named after him -

Anonymous said...

Vallone said nothing about the Triboro becoming the RFK.

I guess somesome did not give him something he wanted so this is in spite.

Anonymous said...

LOL....it's the "Eddie Cock Bridge".

That's how, I believe, Koch is usually pronounced in German.

And how fitting for a gay ex-mayor with a rent controlled apartment in Greenwhich Village..

Anonymous said...

Well in a way if Koch really is gay...it's still the Queen's Borough Bridge...either "bottom or top" (deck)!

If the city has no money then it has no business undertaking vanity projects such as this.

Anonymous said...

Don't spend money on any further name changes anywhere in this city.

If they insist that Koch be named for a street I suggest they rename Park Avenue as Koch Avenue.See how that go over with the silk stocking set.

He's a life-long resident of Manhattan, rarely ventured to Queens. So if any naming, let's rename the Manhattan Bridge (but would Brooklynites say?), or maybe "Greenwich Village" where he spent most of his life.

Notice how 2.5 years after the "renaming" of the Triborough Bridge to RFK, that the Triborough signs are still all over the highways?

Vallone, stick to your guns m'boy. Show some back bone here.

Just another case of Bloomie laying a big, steamy dump on Queens.
To him, Queens is just a traffic nuisance on his way to the Hamptons.

Anonymous said...

If Vallone relents, you'll know that the Mayor promised him or Astoria something......

Anonymous said...

I support it only if it had an authentic Queens flavor:

"The Edward I. Koch - Donald R. Manes Bridge"

But hey -- who remembers the 80's now?

Anonymous said...

Name a sewage treatment plant after him instead

Anonymous said...

if it has to be renamed ,it should be "THE REAGAN BRIDGE".
NANCY REAGAN was raised in Flushing ,Queens in the Bowne St./Sanford Avenue section.

i believe her step-father was a doctor. she may have been adopted by them?

Let's rename the South Bronx for Koch. Isn't that what he is most famous for?

peter vallone should complain that his brother paul's democratic club is named after Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton sold this country out to the chinese
the same way some city council candidates wanted to sell out north queens to developers

thankS to Steve Behar that did not happen

Anonymous said...

"Thanks to Behar" Havent you noticed that Bayside, Whitestone, WILLETS POINT, College Point, Main Street, have been sold out to developers??? look around the Grace Property, the waterfront in College Point, the old Whitestone CYO, Willets Point ED!. Where the hell is Behar??? Behar is a yutz as is Forcina, and Vallone is in bed with Apelian and Shulman. WAKE THE FCK UP!

Another thing: WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! PETER AND PAUL WANT THAT BRIDGE NAMED AFTER DADDY... HOW THE HELL DO YOU NOT SEE THAT WRITING ON THE WALL? ASTORIA IS THE GRAFITTI CAPITAL AFTER ALL!!!!!

No.

Simon and Garfunkel. Two assholes bred in Queens naming their treacly song the "59th Street Bridge Song". S&G, no respect for their home borough. That's why Bloomberg and Koch do not respect OUR bridge. The placque on the upper roadway clearly calls it the "Queensboro Bridge".

It ain't broke. Don't fix it.

Bullshit, Astoria gets nothing but transient yuppies on their way to buying their first mansion in the Hamptons.

We can't even get our garbage picked up for weeks, when Manhattan is spotless.

FUCK BLOOMBERG.

Seems like our music critic Georgetheatheist has taste up his wazoo. What did he ever contribute to society? And exactly how does that song disrespect Queens? Oh. It mentions 59th Street? And that makes S & G assholes? Perhaps the asshole shoe should be on the other foot??!!?!

And George, you are such a Fun-gi.

Actually in LIC its the 59th Street Bridge, as it used to be the 92nd St Ferry and and 34th St Frerry.

Its names a place we go to in NY. Folks from LIC consider ourselves to be for all intents and purposes, part of 'the city.'

Since you Queens types pride yourselfs in thinking you are so great, that is fine.

LIC is not Queens.

Queens Crapper said...

Actually, LIC is very much treated like Queens. You can delude yourselves into thinking you are a cheaper Manhattan, but you ain't. Your snow wasn't cleaned and your garbage wasn't picked up either.

You make me laugh. Paul has done more good for this community than any of those other goons could ever dream of. Steve Behar is a joke, same goes for all those other clowns who "exposed" Paul. I've seen Steve Behar around Paul, he's ask fake as it gets. All he does is suck up to him. He is a fake who will literally say anything to make himself look like the "hero" of Council District 19. If this website wasn't so concerned with bashing the Vallones and actually took their heads out of their asses, maybe you'd see that he's a pretty good guy.

Anonymous said...

queens dems are among the most corrupt in the country

paul is a nice guy and compared to muts like the staviskys and crew he is a saint

however Steve behar has been a true hero of reform

he says it like it is and you have to respect steve behar as well as Forcina, and paul vallone all of these guys ran against the corrupt machine which i assume is not easy

Come on Crappy, you slubs pay the taxes and we get the fruit - beautiful views of Manhattan while you get to stare at Queens Crap walls amd listen to funky music in your air shafts all night, new libraries and schools and parks while they close your hospitals and cut back on your pathetic services.

LIC went downhill the moment they yoked it to Queens, and is now rebounding once they cut the suffocating ropes.

Now let me look at the beautiful 59th Street Bridge from my window while you dance the kumbaya around the Unisphere, a child of the Age of Edsal fins, GE HiFis, and Mangnavox TVs.

Thank your politicans and civic leaders, don't get angry with us. They sold you down the river and we just picked up the fruit they left us.

Don't they teach trust fund twits from Connecticut how to spell up there?

Or did you get dropped on your head from your illegal nanny when you were 4 years old?

Anonymous said...

Iannece lost the election because Vallone refused to step down due to entitlement. Yet again an example of Italan Americans screwing themselves. They split the vote making way for Kim to win. Vallone should have backed out and supported Iannece. But being that he is an Italian American, its instinct to Screw your own kind if hes not from the same town. A Korean would never do that to another Korean especially if on the same party line.

So The Guineas split the vote, the Wok wins, and all the neighborhood that backed Vallone and Iannecce get behind the pagan Mic.

QUEENS POLITICS AT IT BEST, GOTTA LOVE IT.

"Feelin" Groovy" (I don't like the other title, either) was a throwaway song, albeit one that made Paul Simon a heck of a lot of money. The lyrics above are more indicative of what he wrote.
