Post-storm council bill push in the works

From the Daily News:

Council leaders are crafting a package of bills to force Bloomberg - and future mayors - to work faster, explain their actions and ensure that every borough gets served.

Among bills in the works are ones that would:

* Mandate a snow emergency when forecasters say a blizzard is on the way.

* Require the city to open its emergency operations center long before the flakes start falling.

* Force crews to meet strict deadlines on removing towers of snow that block crosswalks.

* Require the city to publish lists of streets defined as primary, secondary or tertiary - a ranking system that determines which streets get plowed first.

* Designate an official to be in charge of cleanup in each borough.

Other measures would force the city to improve its 911 emergency system and beef up its 311 information system during storms.

And then of course, there's the bill that would force Bloomberg to notify us when he will be out of town and designate a deputy mayor to take charge while he is away. Party's over, pal.

Good start. The Bloomberg in Bermuda at Christmas fiasco snowstorm created this current issue of still difficult to park on ice mounds where there is an open spot. If the city had been prepared by notifying those on standby we would not have these ice mound as large as they are because the first storm would have been cleaned up.

An investigation into why the deputies did not act in place of Bloomberg's disappearance, should be commenced to discipline those who did not perform as they should have. Investigation of thousands of Sanitation workers who were home with their families on Christmas day or elsewhere is not a crime if you are not on duty. But if they were on emergency standby these folks would have dropped their family holiday festivities to be ready for action. Since that didn't happen because the deputies were afraid to call an emergency because of the costs involved (no balls) Bloomberg blames the folks having their Christian holiday as being the cause of the snow disaster.
What balls it takes this man to accuse the DSNY workers of causing snow to fall (that's for another day) while he is wrinkly old in his speedo on his 25 million estate in balmy hot Bermuda!

Maybe he should run as emperor of Bermuda next and be responsible for hurricanes there (oh no he will be in NYC during that event)! give me a break - Bloomberg=Lindsay

They haven't stepped forward and he hasn't identified them. Officially, they don't exist at this point.

I like that last bill, but declaring a snow emergency based on a weather forecast? As the Daily News pointed out in their editorial, forecasters have been known to be wrong. Remember a few years ago when Bloomberg closed the schools on the assumption that there would be a blizzard and there were only flurries?

There has to be some middle ground that would require an earlier declaration of an emergency to be sure, but this is an over-reaction. And there has to be someone in the city who is clearly in charge, not in the Bahamas.

Sure there would still be huge ice mounds. We had almost 2 feet of snow, and the weather was not mild enough to melt it away before the next big snow storm. The subsequent thaw/freeze cycles form the ice we currently have, which does not melt as easily as snow. A prompt clean-up, which we certainly didn't have, would not have made the snow magically disappear.

Bermuda is not in the Bahamas.

http://www.youtube.com/user/Suzannahartist#p/a/u/1/iWsxOn5Zn54 I hit on Bloomberg and Patricia Harris as well as all deputy mayors being out of town during Bloomberg's Blizzard as well as Patricia Harris's son being the head of the Information Technology for NYC Gov and wonder why he wasn't in charge of CityTime and OPA Office of Payroll was..hmm and her husband was appointed to MTA board so is he an MTA SAIC zealot as well? I ask because SAIC CityTime is heading towards the 1 billion $ mark. Thanks Queens Crap.

Queens councilmembers held hearings on a Friday at Noon at the Mayors request. No one cares. Halloran outs a DOT employee and no "Sanitation" employees and no one cares. Queens is getting fckd again and again.
