Paper offers 3 choices for enforcing 14th amendment

From the Times Newsweekly:

There is nothing wrong with the 14th Amendment, but its interpretation has been completely distorted of late—a fact that should outrage American citizens of every walk of life.

“Anchor babies” have been an immigration phenomenon in the U.S. since the 1980s. By latching onto rights granted under the 14th Amendment, illegal alien mothers give birth to their children in the U.S., making the babies eligible to receive welfare and social benefits. The parents of these children are virtually left alone, regardless of their status, since separating families is not exactly a popular idea.

The original intent of the 14th Amendment was clearly not to facilitate illegal aliens defying U.S. law and obtaining citizenship for their offspring, nor obtaining benefits at taxpayer expense.

Even if the law is interpreted in its most basic sense, the fact that a newborn anchor baby is a U.S. citizen does not automatically allow their extended family to remain in the country illegally. The infant’s birthright citizenship is not transferable to any other member of the family.

Amending the Constitution—a task so difficult that it’s only been done 27 times in two centuries—isn’t going to solve the immigration problem; changing the federal immigration laws already on the books will. By not correcting this misapplication of the 14th Amendment, the funds that state and local governments must provide to anchor babies amounts to a virtual tax on U.S. citizens to subsidize illegal aliens.

We offer three alternative options: 1) The mother can leave the newborn with someone in the country who is a citizen, then return to their native country. 2) The parents can take the child back to their native country and let them return when they are of legal age to live as citizens of the U.S. 3) The parents of the child can apply for citizenship before the child is born so they can remain in the country legally and enjoy the rights and privileges entitled to American citizens.

The 14th Amendment doesn’t need to be repealed and replaced; it only needs to be enforced as originally intended.

remember in november.... vote the obama government out in 2010 and 2012.

as soon as possible, enforce the immigration laws already on the books.

turn in all illegal alien employers and do not patronize the business's that break the law. the citizens can help stop this drain on our tax revenues.

Not much to disagree with here. The three options they propose are all available under the existing law.

According to the newspapers, the rate of expulsions has dramatically increased under Obama compared to what it was under Bush.

As for Anchor babies being born to deter the parents being deported, where is the evidence of that?

The illegal immigrants are mostly young people of child bearing age, they typically come from latin cultures with high birthrates.

They are doing what they've always done.

Anyway, I feel like if we have limited resources and there's a choice between deporting a single man or the father and supporter of two little kids, deport the single man first.

That should be true regardless if the two kids are American or not.

option 4) Deport them all and revoke the kids citizenship. One or more parents should be legal for the kid to have citizenship.

There is a woman who picks through our garbage for cans and bottles (one of MANY people now - thanks to Bloomberg's master plan for displacing the middle class out of NY) and has her 5 kids in tow carrying the bags. They are obviously very poor and do not speak English. I feel sorry for them but this reminds me of the 70's when EVERYONE picked through garbage to make a living.

Bloomberg MUST GO, NOW - IMPEACH THE SPOILED LITTLE RUNT! HE MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS CITIES DECAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah, Queens Crap, the obvious forum for rigorous Constitutional scholarship!

Like your "understanding" of cities and other things, this is a joke.

Tell it to the Times Newsweekly, I didn't make this up.

it is only common sense to correct the mis- interpreting of the Constitution. nothing rigorous about it. the progressives are bankrupting the country with these tactics.

it was not supposed to allow illegal aliens to drop babies in the U.S and have the citizens pay for them for ever.

this is nonsense.....

Maybe. But they are miles ahead of the postal clerks that run this city.

Like its hard to come here legally???

I have neghibours that are 2 kids and three adults in a 1 br.

It started out the guy who had a kid with his girl back home in Central America. He married her so she can come here and work to support the 'family' but got pregnant within a month of being here. So now she has 2 kids and can not work (the reason she came here). But they cant live on one income, so now they are flying in one of their mothers to come here so she can take care of the kids while the other two go out and work.

Oh, and they havent paid their rent in months, from what the landlord tell me.

Just fantastic people we import, no?

i just want to say that this when the 14th amendment was passed in the 1890's, no one dreamed that people would simply fly into the USA to give birth to these anchor babies.

As a former Queens resident, and a Manhattan landlord, I see signs of a fast growing and disturbing trend in birth tourism, which will also strain our resources.

Wealthy people from Russia, Turkey, etc, are renting my units just to give birth in the US. These tenants/ tourist want to their children to have all the benefits of US citizenship without any kind of commitment to our country.

And then you have the illegal immigrants who managed to close two Queens hospitals popping out children for US citizenship.

The above is an example of how anchor babies strain US resources.

The 14th amendment must be brought up to date with these modern times.
