City invests in countdown signals to save lives

From the NY Post:

The city will embark on a massive long-term redesign of city streets to make busy intersections safer for pedestrians, Mayor Bloomberg is set to announce today.

The ambitious plan, a cornerstone of the Department of Transportation's goal of cutting annual traffic fatalities in half from 274 to 137 by 2030, involves redesigning intersections, reducing speed limits and installing thousands of crosswalk countdown signals, among other innovations, officials said.

"We're really changing the geography of New York City," DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan told The Post. "You're not going to be able to walk around New York City without seeing the improvements."

Over the next year, the city will embark on a publicity campaign reminding drivers to slow down, while simultaneously experimenting with 20 mph speed limits in select neighborhoods.

Other innovations include expanded sidewalks, better signs, removing parking spaces to give a better field of vision to drivers turning left and making Manhattan's 125th, 57th and Canal streets more pedestrian-friendly.

You want to make the streets safer.Hire more cops and put the experienced cops back into the highway patrol, which is down over 60% in manpower since 2002!

Bloomtard is tickling her fancy!!!

He is as gay as gay can get. I doubt he would tickle any females fancy. Maybe he should take his lttle dick and go fuck himself! We have no money in our budget for cops, firemen, hospitals, etc., but let's spend money on this bullshit.

Bitching at this blog does little.

You must make your feelings known at every chance - your friends and neighbors, comments on blogs, letters to the editor, and yes, why not give him a piece of your mind to his face - especially when cameras are rolling!

My, they're looking a bit chummy.

This will mean more traffic and more frustrated drivers. Sounds much safer to me. This will be like the time Giuliani changed the timing on all the traffic lights so you couldn't drive more than a block or two without hitting a red, and strictly enforced the 30mph speed limit. Fucking aggravating.

"the city will embark on a publicity campaign reminding drivers to slow down,"

THE CITY SHOULD EMBARK ON A PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN REMINDING DRIVERS TO GET INSURANCE, TAKE DRIVING LESSONS, STOP RUNNING RED LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS, STOP DOUBLE PARKING, STOP PARKING ON SIDEWALKS AND STOP PARKING IN COMMUNITY DRIVEWAYS.

ALL THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COPS REFUSE TO TICKET FOR SINCE THEY'RE TOO BUSY DOING THESE THINGS THEMSELVES.

there are so many obstacles on the n.y.c. streets already that driving to fast is practically an impossibility.
contstruction,con edison,pedestrian area benches,dumpsters,bike lanes,left-turn lanes only,thru
streets for six blocks, and traffic agents who won't allow a turn after the six block thru st. adventure, weekend avenue fairs for 10 blocks, bike delivery boys riding the wrong way, bike cabs slowing traffic to a standstill, united nations week,D.C.politicians motorcades(you know who),Bubba and Hillary were the worst offenders, and the tourists who can not cross a street and the model on the cell phone in the center of 5th ave.

motorists need a Phd. in road navigation here.
