Spending like there's no tomorrow

From the Daily News:

A day after a deal on a $75 billion city budget, watchdogs said Friday they were concerned that spending is increasing without a firm program to attack deficits forecast in future years.

“There’s no margin for error,” Carol Kellerman, of the Citizens Budget Commission, said of the plan negotiated by Mayor de Blasio and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

“If something goes wrong, or spending increase more than projected because things cost more than he anticipates, he hasn’t exercised the discipline to plan for ... savings.”

City Controller Scott Stringer said the budget was “financially prudent” but that “we should look at how to create savings within agencies.”

The budget is $5 billion greater than the $70B budget adopted at this time last year, a 7% increase that reflects, in part, de Blasio’s expansive view of government.

Ny state debt is a ticking time bomb. Only 300 billion dollars in debt and counting with half of it being from NYC alone.

That's $9,500 for each NYC resident!

The same article quotes the Comptroller's office as attributing half of the increase to Bloomberg's spending decisions from his last term (i.e. failing to negotiate with all 152 city unions for 4 years.)

Citizens Budget makes the same statements every time a new budget is agreed to. Don't make out De Blasio to be more of a socialist than his predecessor insofar as his budget priorities. His rhetoric, though, is something else...

NY State debt has little to do with NYC debt.

DiBlasio is the worst thing to happen to NYC. We are in for a nightmare that will bring our city to its knees. This guy is a manic depressive and on medication. His thought process is very unstable and dangerous. We got stuck with him because only 24% of voters came out to vote last year. Only 24%!

The boy mayor had better start filling potholes before cars begin falling in.

Perhaps the method to his madness is the more pot holes in our roads forces one to drive slower negating the need for a reduction in the speed limit.
