Rockaway ferry funding nixed

From the Daily News:

The Rockaway Ferry will be docked this fall after failing to make the cut in the city’s 2015 budget Tuesday morning.

The city’s temporary funding for the ferry will be slashed in October after Queens Borough President Melinda Katz tried to convince City Council to earmark $8 million from the $75 billion budget to fund permanent ferry service.

The money went toward the illegal alien ID program instead. (You folks down there don't vote the right way.)

Put that funding back into the ferry then ferry all the illegals right back to Mexico!

The Rockaways don't need 750 people to get a $25-30 subsidy to ride a boat (each way, every day!)

They need better train service, not just to Manhattan, but to the rest of Queens. Replace the shuttle with an extended M or R and the area would be much better off.

Anon #2 you may be correct but the point is a service that's provided to tax paying residents/citizens is being taken away to provide ever more funding to the people who contribute the least

It's time for Queens and the rest of Long Island to say Bye-Bye to NYC.

BTW, I heard a rumor that the new NYC ID will eventually allow for a certain amount of free subway and bus rides for qualified holders.

That new ID also lets you vote three times.

Rockaways would be a great place to house all those illegal kids streaming over the border that Barry knew nothing about until he read about it in the NY Times.

This is what you get with a one party system.

News flash- The M & R subway lines don't go to Rockaway.

Its ok though because we found funding for the more important things like providing ID cards for illegal aliens and funding lawyers for them so that they can stay here illegally.

Yes. I know. The northern half of the former LIRR Rockaway Beach Branch could be rebuilt, connected to QB local tracks to the north, and the southern half of the RBB at Liberty, currently carrying the A train, and send the R or M to the Rockaways. 67th and 71st would lose a train. But the reason they can't run more QB locals now is that 71st can't turn more trains. So they could increase frequency on the remaining local, or extend the G back to 71st, so they won't lose out much if at all.

What do they say the subsidy is, 8 million per year? Bonded over 30 years that goes a long way towards paying for this project, and would help a lot more Rockaway residents, not to mention residents throughout the city.
