LPC will be in landmarking overdrive

With less than 18 months left in Mayor Bloomberg's final term, the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission is in a race against the clock to approve historic designations for more than 1,000 buildings.

The number of proposed designations includes a planned new historic district in Prospect Heights with 860 of the buildings.

Last year, only 369 buildings were approved citywide.

"The clock is ticking, and we're trying to do as much as possible while we have the momentum and the resources," said Landmarks Preservation Commissioner Robert Tierney.

Overdrive my ass!

All the work (research & photos)
have been completed and turned in to LPC for the Broadway/ Flushing historic district well over a year ago.

We're already a National District.
Yet they refuse to calendar us!

Notice how LPC has moved Ridgewood ahead of the line (not that it doesn't deserve landmark status)!

The rest of the "considerations"are Brooklyn and Manhattan sites (of course)!

It seems to me like the more a community wants something, the more the city wil not oblige. Especially if that community doesn't have any well-connected people.

Broadway/Flushing is beautiful. I wish I could afford to live there. I really hope they get landmarked soon!

This is a joke, usual smoke and mirrors by the mainline preservation community knowing full well that without an aggressive public education program, the polticians and press will never let preservation facts into neighbhorhoods of the working class or people of color.

A few places will be landmarked, sure, you do need a figleaf, but the vast majority of these will be buildings (almost all have been altered) that will expand existing districts.

You could easily get 300 buildings expanding Greenwich Village alone.

Overturn that god damn law already!

Meanwhile, the NYS Pavilion continues to crumble

While analyzing the larger picture of buildings lost or sites not calendared when submitted, the LPC is a hoax. The alteration excuse is played out. Their history proves otherwise. Time to start a Landmarks Commission by the people for each borough.

NO!

A separate LPC for each borough would only insure that clubhouse appointed hacks would be running the local show!

Can you imagine shell shocked,
burned out "preservationist" appointees like Jeff Kroessler and Jeff Gottlieb (the two Jeffs) serving as commissioners on a Queens Landmark Commission?

Gag me with a spoon!

Ha, ha, ha....the LPC on overdrive....a slight "improvement" over first gear?

Tierney needs a dose of Dexadrine
to wake him up!

Guys, easy on using names. One thing for public official, another for a private citizen, no matter how well meaning.
