New crap on Greenpoint's Newel Street

From Miss Heather:

What was the architect thinking when he (or she) decided to pair red brick with olive green and pigeon shit gray stucco? Seriously. Is this person color blind or did he think employing this jarring combination of colors was making a “statement”? Note the patch of yellow paint on the first floor. I am hoping against hope this is primer of something, but my gut instinct tells me otherwise.

I suggested to Miss Heather that maybe the architect was copying Crescent Club in Dutch Kills, but she wasn't buying the Karl Fischer inspiration.

You know, the other day I was walking in Manhattan marvelling at how 86th Street is being destroyed by new development.

I noticed the name Robert A M Stern as one of the firms.

Then it hit me.

The architectual profession is one of the biggest problems in community preservation. They are partly responsible for this.

I call upon the mainline preservation community to call the entire profession to task. Hold a seminar, and call them in and grill them before the public.

Start with Stern.

Again, where are the fire escapes? In a fire, where is the way out? Only the front windows from the fifth floor? Ouch.

Robert A.M. Stern? What's with the double middle name? Who does he think he is? Samuel F.B. Morse?
