Katz concerned about Coachella

Photo montage by George the Atheist
From the Daily News:

The company behind the Coachella music fest has mounted a huge charm offensive, lobbying city officials for more than a year in the hope of throwing a similar concert in a Queens park.

AEG Live paid $150,000 to a lobbying firm over the past year just to be introduced to city officials.

The entertainment juggernaut plans to meet with Queens Borough President Melinda Katz later this week, after the Daily News reported on the possibility of a Coachella-sized gathering in Flushing-Meadows Corona Park next June.

“My biggest concern is there is no public process here,” Katz told The News Wednesday.

The fest, tentatively called Panorama, would fall two weeks after the Governors Ball and during a weekend when the Mets are playing at Citifield.

No public process? Since when is that a concern ?

Is that the Steinway mansion hanging over Katz's head?
What a bimbo! Make that a builder's bimbo.
Katz is owned by developers and she will accommodate any of them,
provided they leave enough $$$$$$$$$ on her night stand.

Is the Neanderthal lusting after the City Council Speaker part of the entertainment, too?.That oughta seal the deal!

Isn't Katz a lover of the arts?

WOW, talk about a snow job bullshit story on Queens Borough President Melinda Katz. But then what would you expect from the Commercial Observer, which is just a big real estate media outlet and since Melinda is in the deep pockets of the real estate developerS, of course it is going to be filled with bullshit over top of more bullshit wrapped in bullshit, like the constantly over used phrase of Katz, “most diverse county” in the United States. There are more than 130 languages spoken throughout the borough, with 120 countries represented.”

Like who gives a flying fuck when most of your borough looks like third world shit with the exception of Katz’s hood of Forest Hills (where I am sure huge trucks do not drive on her residential street) and LIC and Astoria.

I also love the line, “Hotels are good to a large extent, because if we are building hotels it means that people actually are coming here,” Ms. Katz said. Ah, NOT REALLY, it could also mean that many of the said hotels will be turned into homeless shelters like several have in Jamaica and let’s not forget the huge Pan Am Hotel on Queens Boulevard in Elmhurst or did you forget about those hotels Ms. Katz.

Now, please excuse me while I throw up from all this this shit I just digested.

Coachella would be one of the most exciting things to happen to Queens since the World's Fair (and later - of course - Led Zeppelin).

the city though SHOULD receive something from the proceeds of the concert.

She should have just quietly approved it with no public notice, then everyone would be happy. Obviously voicing hesitation was a mistake.

My mistake, I saw that photo, which was the same one used in this article about Katz and I just thought it was the article:

Coachella? Forget that. They should bring in Burning Man. Set the Unisphere on fire. Lonely Planet? . . Burning Planet. Every year. I'll bring the marshmallows.

Agreed.
Without question Coachella would be the best thing to happen in Queens and that park since 1964. They are well organized, dont book shit drug or thrasher bands and well self policed. I worked on their sound crew this year.
Katz should contract that Queens residents are allowed one 1/2 price ticket per person. AEG Live is a bunch of greedy "big gorilla" scumbags. Katz needs to be really careful and vigilant with them, these "suits" may be out of her league she should contact a professional like Ron Delsner for help to see that Queens and its residents get a fair piece of that LARGE pie.

George:--Burning man is for gays, weirdos and washed up camper hippies who dont spend money. Its a totally different show and crowd

Thanks, Joe. See Folks. This site is s-o-o-o educational.

But I still think a Unisphere in flames once a year would be quite an outstanding entertainment sight. I'm sure it could be protected with some kind of fire retardant. A Burning Ball Festival. You have to think "out of the box".

It would be real funny if that picture of the Steinway Mansion from time to time would appear in the background of various tableau involving our political and civic leadership.

Brilliant. This Melinda Katz picture will be the one that defines her term in office as beep.

Why did the Queens politicos support a permanent destructive soccer stadium in the park, but are concerned about a temporary festival?

Anonymous said...

She's thinking what else can I do to destroy Queens.

Coachella in Queens? What a crappy mess this would be. Druggy, drunk with ecstasy zombie casulaties.

JQ said...

She's thinking a way to get an hour to sing on the bill. Like if Lucy Ricardo became boro prez.

She also bears a resemblance to Susan Biddle Ross on Seinfeld.

They didn't support the soccer stadium, that's why it got nixed. Duhhhhhh.

Anonymous said...

She's thinking maybe it's time for another Curtis Sliwa infusion.
Her past canoodling with Alan Hevesi made her nauseous.
Gag....that thought is making me nauseous!

Im all in for NASCAR. That old pool would make a great track and seating. You could also do outdoor concerts, fireworks. I could vision a very successful New York version burning man with some lasers, rockets an flame throwers mounted on that stainless steel Unisphere.

KATZ FOR MAYOR 2018!! HA HA, NOT LIKELY...HEY KATZ INSTEAD OF WORRYING ABOUT A COUPLE OF HIPPIES ENJOYING MUSIC THAT NOBODY LIKES AND GETTING HIGH, HOW ABOUT WORKING ON FIXING THE DAMN PARK. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE THERE?? (Google Earth doesn't count)...

I don't know how I feel about having a bunch of white hippies and their cultural appropriation in Queens, but it is what it is.
