Schools Chancellor Carranza walks out on town hall following complaints to his face from parents with kids being bullied in his schools

NY Post

Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza was jeered off the stage at a packed town hall meeting at a Queens middle school Thursday as anger over school safety boiled over.

The Department of Education boss faced the wrath of more than 500 parents at MS 74 Nathaniel Hawthorne in Oakland Gardens.

“What is happening here?” parent Katty Sterling yelled at Carranza. “We’re not getting answers! Nobody is giving answers!”

Exasperated, Sterling told school officials how her daughter had twice allegedly been assaulted by a female classmate at MS 158 Marie Curie in Bayside and is now too afraid to return to school.

Her daughter’s tormentor was never suspended and remains in class, according to Sterling.

“The other student is sitting in school getting all the privileges and what is my daughter doing? Sitting at home, sick, getting traumatized!” Sterling screamed at the dais just feet from Carranza.
MS 158, one of the district’s highly regarded schools, has been hit with a string of ugly incidents in recent months, including a vicious lunchroom fight last week and a classroom sexual assault last month. Both incidents resulted in arrests.

Tired of an attempt at reassurance by School District 26 Superintendent Danielle Giunta, Sterling had approached the dais to give Carranza and other officials a piece of her mind.
As she vented her frustrations, others in the audience joined in.

After several unsuccessful attempts to quiet the crowd, Carranza rose and exited the stage as the hooting continued.

Earlier in the meeting, after the superintendent spoke, a school dad whose daughter was allegedly forcibly touched in an MS 158 classroom in November, tried to address the panel.

But panel members told him they were answering only questions that had been submitted in writing before the meeting — and that he was out of order.

NY Post

A mom whose daughter was seen in a viral video being beaten at a Queens school and who tried to confront schools Chancellor Richard Carranza about it at a meeting Thursday ripped him for abruptly walking out while she and others were trying to get answers.

“I will be honest with you,” said Katty Sterling, whose daughter was attacked in a cafeteria by a bully at MS 158 in Bayside last week. “I really don’t think he cares. He didn’t say a word, he just sat there. He had no answers for what the parents were asking. And then he left.”

A crowd of more than 500 parents and teachers swarmed the meeting of Community Education Council 26 Thursday night to address concerns over what they say are spiraling classroom conditions.

This cafeteria fight video just makes me appreciate teachers and aides all the more- they are literally putting their lives in danger every time they show up to work. I have a friend who teaches 8th grade at a middle school in Queens. She is a petite gal- probably 5’1- so her students are all her size or (more often) larger. Most of her kids are well above the traditional age of 8th graders (13). I believe students are entitled to public school education until the age of 20 or 21. She has had 17–year olds in her class, and one year she had a particularly disturbed kid who hurled his desk across the room at her (thankfully she was able to avoid being hit). This wasn’t a class for kids identified with behavioral problems- just a regular class. I don’t know how teachers and other staff are supposed to protect themselves, and protect other students, from physical attacks- only school security guards are allowed to touch a student (eg, grab an arm that is about to punch them, or restrain a kid who is fighting another kid). But there are only a handful of security guards in a school with hundreds of kids. I dunno, what is the answer?

Ok, now I’ll turn to the video with the so-called adults, who honestly aren’t much better behaved than the gals in the cafeteria fight. I understand their frustration, esp the mom of the bullied girl, but what the heck good is it doing to rush the stage screaming like a lunatic? Isn’t it obvious that when you act like that you are never going to get your point across?- the person to whom you are directing your complaints in this manner is not going to take you seriously, because he is not going to have any respect for you, and in fact will only turn defensive and walk away. But since this is the level of behavior that even adults (the ones in this video at least) display, why are meetings held so informally? The meeting organizers should have a microphone stand at which parents who want to speak line up and wait their turns. The mike should be guarded by security guards, and once the person has had their say, that’s it, get back to your seat or be escorted out if you cannot control yourself! This is how talk shows operate. Have we learned nothing from Steve Wilco?!

OK They caused Carranza to scram. Now what? How does the issue get resolved?

In the fisticuff video: looks like a lot of teachers ("Not my job.") standing around - except maybe for one who tried to restrain the bully- who are waiting for school security to show up.

Gotta love that diversity! Kids weren't getting enough exposure to bullying and assault before. Carranza has fixed that nicely. Well done, sir!

Don't beleive in Left-Wing Commie doctrines taught to our Children starting with pre-school and put on display in almost all our media ! European-born immigrants made up 75% of American immigrants in 1960, the percentage has dropped to only 11 percent now ! How is that working out ?
Diversity is a Weakness, Not a Strength !

The rule that only a security officer can break up a fight is going to have to change. I am aware that the teachers union is in favor of it, and some teachers are more than happy to keep hands off. But the intensity of violence is escalating, and someone is going to get seriously injured. Seconds count in what has become war zones. It will be up to the parents to sue the crap out of DOE. Suspend and charge the perp. We are such a violent society, students think it's cool and and their only instinct is to film it. rather than step in and help.

I went to this school many moons ago and my daughter went to this school as well. It wasnt bad when I was there or when she was there. Now kids deserve to be disciplined but everyone is afraid to even touch children in fear of getting in trouble by someone. I think schools need to go back to how they were when kids actually GOT punished and actually get homework. They schools have become far too relaxed and lazy. Its also the parents too who dont teach their kids how to respect authority and allow them to do whatever they want.

Meanwhile, down the block they made that other stupid elementary school even though the neighborhood voted against it. But just because a school is in the same area of other decent schools, doesnt mean that that school would be as good as the others. The schools are only as good as what the kids and teachers make it to be. Just because a school is in district 26, dont expect it to be a great school.

Lol obviously you havent been here in a while or are too blind. The majority of kids in bayside anymore is asians kids. White people who live around here are mostly elderly people. I dont see many white women around here with kids. Mostly I see Asian and some Spanish here with kids. I know this kid you see in the video was a white kid but that's only probably the only white kid in that whole school.

But of course, I do think carranza only got hired because he is Hispanic and doesn't care about any of the kids in any of the schools. He only cares about the nice pension he will receive if he is able to stay until retirement and about his big paycheck. They dont care about the kids especially those kids who were born to legal citizens.

No we are not but we can become one if Laws are not enforced ! Look at Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. and tell me if Bayside can be compared to those Shitehole places !
A certain 13% of the U.S. population committs over 50% of Murder !
"According to the US Department of Justice, African Americans accounted for 52.5% of all homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008, with Whites 45.3% and "Other" 2.2%. The offending rate for African Americans was almost 8 times higher than Whites, and the victim rate 6 times higher. Most homicides were intraracial, with 84% of White victims killed by Whites, and 93% of African Americans victims were killed by African Americans"

Carranza says NYC schools are segregated and needs more diversity . Why must everything be judged by race? we are supposed to be a color blind society but they always play the race card.
Look at Leticia James our brilliant DA,just because more blacks are arrested for fare beating it means the police are racist. When she ran for Public Advocate she came to a Juniper Civic meeting and sounded reasonable but now she is showing her true colors and just pushing her liberal agenda.
Students should go to schools on their merit not race and criminals should be arrested if they commit crimes.Simple.Stop all the social engineering already.

Carranza, may be at the heart of this type of behavior, and he may be a racist, as others have accused him of. But, Carranza is appointed by the mayor, just like every other Schools Chancellor has been in NYC. New Yorker's complain and complain, but remember, you voted for this mayor, over and over. If there is a problem, then it's you, the voter, not Carranza.

The police aren't racist for arresting more blacks for fare jumping. Most of the fare jumpers are black so of course more will be arrested. Why doesn't the new add that to their reports. It doesn't take a genius to see this. It's not brain surgery to know you don't jump the turnstile you don't get arrested!!!!

Does he mean that all of the 99% black enrolled schools in deep Brooklyn should be desegregated too???

The videos in this post auto-play, leading to my computer speakers blasting out noise unexpectedly and disturbing everyone else.
I don't know if this is a problem on your side or the NY Post's side, but please please try to avoid auto-play videos in the future.

Last anon and to all the Crap readers:

I immensely apologize for the Post videos. I actually tried to fix it twice but it keeps doing it. The post allows the automatic play and the next videos all the time on their site.

All I can ask is just pause the videos or mute the window, I really want that Carranza story to stay in the front page a little longer, so bear with it for now, I wont post Post vids again.

Yep, you should keep that video as long as Carrranza is school's chancellor. Which should be about as long as Diblasio remains your coveted mayor.

>I really want that Carranza story to stay in the front page a little longer

As well it should be.

Perhaps with Post videos you can give us a text link so we can go watch it without worrying about auto-play.
